Job Description:
The Aerojet Rocketdyne Segment of L3Harris is seeking a Lead, Quality Engineer - Precision Measuringto work at either our existing state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) in Toney, AL, and/or our new, AMF in Huntsville, AL, which will be our inert manufacturing facility for fabrication and assembly of composite rocket motor hardware. The Quality Engineer who steps into this role possesses a strong knowledge and broad expertise in precision measuring equipment, including capabilities, maintenance, calibrations, and application. This individual will support complex projects or processes with minimal oversight and will effectively communicate within and outside the function to gain concurrence and acceptance regarding our manufacturing processes' ability to meet customer requirements. As the primary focal point and subject matter expert on all aspects of precision measuring using contact and non-contact technologies, the individual will support both high and low volume manufacturing rates. The role involves performing, coaching, and training others in the use of these measuring tools, programming as needed, and interpreting output/results to support development and production programs.
Essential Functions:
Work within established procedures and develop new procedures to enable the team to execute critical inspections requiring a high degree of accuracy and precision using advanced equipment.
Use precision inspection techniques (CMM, Laser Tracker, Romer Arm, MetraScan, etc.) to inspect products, manufacturing tooling, processes, and procured items to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
Collaborate closely with cognizant Quality Engineers to write and qualify Laser Tracker and CMM programs.
Provide tooling inspection data to Quality Engineering to support the Huntsville calibration system.
Utilize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) knowledge to interpret engineering requirements and correlate these requirements to CMM inspection results.
Apply critical thinking skills to troubleshoot inconsistent inspection results provided by CMM, Laser Tracker, Romer Arm, MetraScan, etc.
Work with the operations team to ensure products meet specifications and schedule requirements.
Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineers and Quality Engineers in operations to troubleshoot and recommend solutions for problems.
Oversee and train team members on the use of various precision measuring devices (CMM, Laser Tracker, Romer Arm, MetraScan, etc.).
Accept or reject defective or malfunctioning units or systems.
Up to 10% business travel to L3harris and customer sites.
Ability to obtain US Security Clearence.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior Quality experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior Quality experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior Quality experience.
2+ years experience and full understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
2+ years experience operating a wide range of precision inspection equipment, including a Laser Tracker.
2+ years experience with Standard Measurement Instruments (SMI) (e.g., calipers, micrometers, etc.).
Preferred Additional Skills:
Experience working in an AS9100 or ISO9001 environment.
Experience with Build-It inspection software.
Experience with Zeiss Calypso programming.
Experience with Spatial Analyzer software.
Experience leading and communicating with a team.
Certified Quality Inspector (CQI).
Experience with Root Cause and Corrective Action analysis.
