Job Description:
Mechanical Manager responsible for leading the SMA Aero Engineering team supporting airlift missions. Participates in the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations. Engineer applies basic engineering design and/or analytical theory with understanding of structural analysis for application to integrated system design. Engineer will be responsible for research, development of layouts, preparation of engineering drawings, and coordination of design activities with Tooling, Flight Sciences, Manufacturing, and Production to ensure that designs meet requirements at minimum cost. Designs will be accomplished using world-class, three-dimensional solid modeling CAD tools and work will be accomplished with senior-level design engineers. Mechanical design engineers have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems on various aircraft platforms.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for providing guidance, coaching, and training to other employees.
- Oversee the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations.
- Ensure proposals are vetted for accuracy in cost, scope, and schedule.
- Ensure programs are accomplished on schedule and within budget while complying with process/procedures and program requirements.
- Provides input into new products, processes, standards and/or operational plans that will have measurable impact on the achievement of overall function or business results.
- Ensure program airworthiness, customer, and company requirements are understood and met.
- Capable of influencing a wide range of audience and having demonstrated leadership skills to win support without direct reporting structure.
- Be able to walk to and from the flight line, work in aircraft hangar environment and board/exit aircraft is required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
- Experience running total lifecycle of programs including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, and execution.
- Understanding of aircraft systems
- Understanding of various mission systems
- Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 and 25) and military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements
- Knowledge of manpower planning, milestone scheduling, and related financial management
- Formulate strategic vision, define implementation plan of action to achieve success.
- Capable of managing and working in an environment that is fast paced, demanding, with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products to include, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship is required.
