Job Description:
The System Administrator is integral to the seamless operation of our technological infrastructure, offering versatile support across various levels, from server to desktop and network. The role demands agility in addressing a dynamic range of tasks—some days may be concentrated on desktop support, while others may revolve around server-centric responsibilities. The candidate must possess a robust understanding of Windows servers, desktop systems, and an understanding of basic networking.
The successful candidate will be responsible for consistent monitoring of system performance, adeptly configuring new hardware and software, and delivering Level 2 support for intricate issues that surpass initial helpdesk capabilities. An organized, focused approach is essential, enabling the Systems Administrator to attentively respond and adjust to the evolving requirements of our clientele. The knowledge of IT security principles or security frameworks such as NIST and/or ISO27001 is a must.
Essential Functions:
- Manage and maintain Windows in a multi-site environment.
- Perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.
- Provide Level 2 support for incidents and problems in server infrastructure.
- Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
- Configure/add new services as necessary.
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
- Review system and application logs. Verify completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Conduct periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
- Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible issues.
- Troubleshooting security issues and performing root cause analysis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience or 2 years post-Secondary/ associate’s degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
- Active Security Clearance
- Current CompTIA Security+ certification
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong experience with Windows server environments
- Experience Working with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP
- Experience with virtual machines (Hyper-V and VMWare)
- Understanding of SCCM/MECM
- Knowledge of system security (e.g., intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery.
- Knowledge of Security Standards and Frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Bash, CMD, and Python
- Familiarity with PowerShell, PSADE 3 and 4
- Experienced troubleshooting desktop hardware and end user issues.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), CompTIA Server+, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)) are a plus.
- Demonstrated self-starter - efficient in achieving goals and proactive in pursuing subsequent task.
- Experience in managing security projects, including timelines, resources, and stakeholder expectations.
- Capability to coordinate with multiple departments to ensure security throughout the system lifecycle.
- Maintain a positive relationship with customers on a day-to-day basis.
- Ability lift and carry equipment up to 30 pounds.
