Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking qualified individuals to join our Aeronautical Systems Engineering team as an Associate Tool Design Engineer. In this role, you will apply basic engineering design principles to develop detail parts, assemblies, and installations to support fabrication, assembly and installation tooling. In addition, you will provide metrology services using laser trackers/scanners, coordinate measuring machines and other equipment to support engineering design development and evaluation. Associate Tool Design Engineers have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft modifications on various aircraft platforms.
Essential Functions:
Participate in research, development of layouts, and preparation of engineering drawings
Coordinate design activities with various departments, such as Mechanical/Structural Design, Sustainment, and Production, to ensure that tool designs meet requirements at minimum cost
Support 3D scanning of parts, assemblies and/or aircraft to provide models for aircraft modification and system integration
Qualifications:
Requires practical knowledge of job area. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
Good computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Must be able to travel to and from flight line and work in aircraft hangar environments (some positions will require the ability to board/exit aircraft)
Willingness for short-term travel
- Position requires an active DoD Security Clearance, the ability to maintain the stated clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Knowledge of CAD and PLM software, including NX and Teamcenter
Capable of managing and working in an environment that is fast paced and demanding
Experience with preparing engineering products in accordance with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5 for 2D and 3D drawing definition and model-based GD&T practice
