Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking qualified individuals to join our Aeronautical Systems Engineering (ASE) team as a manager of our Mass Properties team. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers in performing mass properties analysis and weighing aircraft. You will manage team performance, lead major engineering efforts, monitor program execution for you team, help with monthly labor forecast, and review bids and proposals.
Essential Functions:
- Calculate and estimate component weights, moment arms, and mass moment of inertia from engineering drawings and CAD models.
- Calculate overall aircraft weight and balance.
- Developing aircraft mass distributions.
- Manage weight control plans, including allocation and tracking of target weights.
- Prepare aircraft weight charts and support aircraft inventories for weighings.
- Document weight analysis and actual aircraft weighings in engineering reports.
- Lead and coordinate tasks for Mass Properties on several contracts.
- Provide training and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
- Estimate the scope and labor hours for Mass Properties efforts on new pursuits.
- Update monthly labor forecasts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree mechanical, aerospace, aeronautical engineering or similar and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Good people or soft skills.
- Good computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Able to travel to and from flight line and work in aircraft hangar environments. This includes the ability to board/exit aircraft for inventories and weighings.
- Willingness to travel and work weekends occasionally.
- Must be eligible to obtain a DOD Secret Security Clearance which requires US citizenship.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience leading a team of engineers.
- Proficient with AWBS software.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with weighing aircraft and maintaining records.
- Understanding of FAA and military airworthiness requirements.
