Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking qualified individuals to join our Aeronautical Systems Engineering (ASE) team as a Flight Sciences Lead for a new program. In this role, you will coordinate with the ASE Task Lead, Project Engineers, Airworthiness Representatives, and the Flight Sciences team to drive successful program execution. You will ensure the total technical solution from Flight Sciences is adequate and coordinated across Flight Sciences disciplines in meeting airworthiness and program requirements. The ideal individual can develop innovative solutions to technical problems across the Flight Sciences disciplines (aerodynamics, structural dynamics, structural analysis, durability and damage tolerance analysis).
Essential Functions:
- Support and review engineering bids and ROMs.
- Perform engineering work in one of the Flight Sciences disciplines up to their current job level to assist as needed.
- Lead Flight Sciences engineers to manage their scope, budget, and schedule performance.
- Mentor Flight Sciences engineers to develop their technical and leadership skills.
- Guide engineers in creating innovative solutions to complex engineering problems.
- Work with airworthiness authorities to optimize program certification approaches.
- Provide input on program plans and program schedules.
- Communicate program flow down information to Flight Sciences.
- Review monthly labor forecasts and identify program staffing needs to ASE managers.
- Influence and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders outside of Flight Sciences.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, aerospace, or aeronautical engineering and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- 9+ years of aerodynamics, structural dynamics, structural analysis, or durability and damage tolerance analysis in modifying fixed-wing manned aircraft.
- Must have a current ACTIVE DoD Secret security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Experience leading a team of 5+ engineers.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of multiple disciplines within Flight Sciences.
- Experience with FAA certification requirements for fixed-wing aircraft modifications.
- Ability to coordinate a structural modification with an aircraft OEM.
