Job Description: L3Harris’ Greenville division is a recognized leader in aircraft modification and special mission system integration, offers challenging and rewarding assignments across a broad spectrum of aircraft modification programs.Mass Properties Engineers perform basic and advanced mass properties analyses, weight control, and reporting for major aircraft modifications using computer aided design (CAD) tools and Microsoft Excel.
Essential Functions:
- Calculating the aircraft weight and balance as a result of a collection of modifications
- Estimating and calculating component weights, moment arms, and mass moment of inertia from engineering drawings
- Development of aircraft mass distributions in support of external loads development
- Weighing of individual aircraft, components, and assemblies
- Preparation of basic weight checklist records, actual weights reports, and weight status reports
- Participation in preliminary design reviews and customer design reviews
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Mathematics, Physics or Accounting
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Ability to perform mass properties analyses including weight optimization and weight control using classical hand analysis techniques and computer methods
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Aeronautical engineering background and understanding of FAA and military weight and balance reporting requirements and methods
- Proficient using Microsoft Excel and Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
