Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled Field Engineer Intern to join our dynamic team in the testing and troubleshooting of AUVs. This is a unique opportunity for a student with a maritime engineering background to gain hands-on experience working with autonomous systems in real-world maritime conditions. The intern will participate in field testing activities, both in water and off ships, under the guidance of industry experts.
The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, have strong problem-solving skills, and a passion for marine technology. This internship offers the chance to assist with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of AUVs while working closely with senior engineers and professionals in the field.
Essential Functions:
· Assist in Field Testing of AUVs: Participate in both onshore and offshore testing of autonomous underwater vehicles in various environmental conditions.
· Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Work alongside industry experts to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues related to AUV hardware, sensors, and software.
· Data Collection & Analysis: Assist with the collection of test data, performing basic analysis and documenting findings for future improvements and reporting.
· Equipment Maintenance: Help with routine maintenance and preparation of AUV systems, including checking and preparing hardware before field testing.
· Collaboration with Experts: Engage with experienced engineers and professionals in both classroom settings and field operations, learning hands-on troubleshooting and best practices.
· Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all field activities follow safety protocols, environmental standards, and legal requirements.
· Report Documentation: Assist in creating technical reports, detailing testing procedures, results, and recommendations for future test iterations or improvements.
Qualifications: (refer to Career Framework)
· Currently enrolled as an engineering student preferably in one of the engineering tracks: Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Ocean Engineering).
· Strong problem-solving skills with a desire to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
· Ability to work outdoors and in challenging environments (aboard ships, in-water testing).
· Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
· Self-motivated with a keen interest in applying classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges.
· Must be able to work flexible hours and participate in field activities, including travel to test sites (may include ship-based testing).
Preferred Additional Skills:
· Hands-on experience or interest in working with marine systems, underwater technologies, or autonomous vehicles is a plus.
· Strong academic performance in relevant coursework, with a particular focus on electrical/mechanical systems, control systems, robotics, or autonomous vehicles.
