L3Harris Space and Mission Systems in the greater Philadelphia region is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team of software developers focused on embedded applications. This frontline leadership role is responsible for guiding the team’s execution across engineering development efforts, including planning, research and development, and program execution in support of projects, pursuits, and programs.

The Software Engineering Manager is also responsible for key functional leadership areas, including workforce and resource planning, recruiting, training, talent development, employee engagement, and retention. This leader will work proactively with functional and business leadership to align staffing, technical execution, and team capabilities with evolving program and business needs.

In this role, the selected candidate will regularly communicate and collaborate with stakeholders both inside and outside the organization, including customers and vendors. The position requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to engage leadership on matters important to the function or business area, including providing briefings to senior leaders.

Essential Functions:

• Manage and direct the day-to-day activities of the Software Engineering team and coordinate individual work assignments.
• Lead Software Engineering design and development efforts, managing technical scope and delivering to technical, cost, and schedule objective.
• Guide software development and delivery for embedded and other applications as needed, driving process efficiency and rigor, creating best practices, andperforming code and design reviews.
• Collaborate with other software managers as well as Electrical, Systems Engineering managers, Program Chief Engineering team to ensure effective product development through optimizing engineering assignments across the development organization.
• Identify and establish development processes and standards to enhance productivity and performance of the team.
• Provide mentorship, coaching and guidance to team members with respect to career development and opportunities for growth.
• Contribute to development on projects as required.
• Develop individual performance goals and team key results, monitor and measure performance, and prepare and deliver formal performance assessments.
• Recruitment and hiring as business needs require.
• Participate in engineering proposal efforts including cost estimation and Basis of Estimate development.
• Manage matrix organization manpower allocation.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software, Computer, or Electrical Engineering with a minimum 9 years of experience in an engineering development environment; or Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience, in lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in leading and managing engineering personnel.
• At least 6 years of experience in the software development environment.
• Active US Government Secret security clearance.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Experience with recruiting and hiring technical talent.
• Experience developing technical and cost volume inputs for proposals.
• Experience as a Cost Account Manager utilizing EVMS, Program execution lifecycle.
• Experience working within an Agile development environment is highly desirable. Scrum Team certification and/or experience.    
• Experience leading proposal development and Basis of Estimate generation.
• Development experience in any of the following areas would be considered highly beneficial: Real Time embedded software development, Information Assurance, video communications, embedded interfaces (I2C, RS232, CAN, Ethernet), Safety Critical systems.
• Encryption and Authorization military standards, product certification and design patterns. BoE preparation and Risk Registry development.
• Experience with DevOps process, tools, and procedures is highly desirable.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $135,000 - $250,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
