Job Description:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead a team of Mechanical Engineers dedicated to designing our Unmanned Aircraft products. This role requires guiding the design of the vehicle from concept through to production, integration, and test support. The ideal candidate will possess innovative problem-solving skills and the ability to identify key requirements that will significantly influence the final design. Additionally, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will drive the engineering efforts to optimize the vehicle based on their understanding of these critical requirements. The importance of fielding hardware within weeks, not years, is paramount to this role, ensuring rapid development and deployment of cutting-edge technology.
The Agile Development Group (ADG) specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS / UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies using small company agility and big company experience.
Essential Functions:
- Lead conceptual and detail design of unmanned aircraft and their supporting systems, including structural design and internal componentry
- Author PDRs, CDRs, and other required design reviews
- Perform significant CAD modeling of parts & assemblies
- Ensures structural design, aerodynamics and payloads are adequately designed
- Exercise considerable judgment in determining optimal design to achieve technical objectives
- Perform trade studies to determine optimal designs
- Completes basic structural and thermal analysis of components & assemblies
- Assist with schedule, cost, and technical responsibility at the major subsystem level
- Complete cost estimation for proposals
- Acts as primary interface to customers & upper management
- Provide guidance and mentorship for other team members formally or informally
- Responsible to direct and review the work of junior engineers and designers and technicians.
- Participate in risk assessment and develop mitigation strategies for complex projects
- Up to 10% travel
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or a related field and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Secret Security Clearance
- Minimum 8 years experience in mechanical design, requirements analysis, specification generation, interface definition, component selection, component 3D CAD modeling, data collection, and product documentation
- Minimum 1 year experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
- Experience in design for and testing to military environments (i.e. temperature, vibration, shock, etc.)
- 5+ years experience in 3D CAD modeling
- Experience using Microsoft Office products
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active Secret Security Clearance highly preferred
- Hands-on capabilities, to include integration and diagnosis of complex mechanisms and products
- Experience in 3D CAD modeling, specifically PTC Creo or Solidworks
- Prior experience in developing aircraft structures or major sub-assemblies is strongly desired
- Some experience in packaging electronics
- Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation)
- Prior electronics packaging experience
