Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking an Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S) Specialist supporting our Ashaway, Rhone Island facility.
The EHS&S professional drives the development, organization, administration, enforcement, and continuous improvement of EHS programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, county, local, and customer requirements. The role will support the location’s performance toward meeting their injury rate and environmental sustainability goals, as well as continuous improvement and validation of their EHS&S compliance requirements.
This role:
- Oversees Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S).
- Serves as the subject matter expert in EHS&S to the Operations, Engineering, and Program Management/Development organizations.
- Reports directly to Quality Manager.
- Supported by a network of EHS&S professionals and corporate leadership within L3Harris.
- Works in environments that are a mix of manufacturing, assembly, repair, engineering, program development, and office activities.
- Expected to be on-site and work a 9-80 schedule.
- May be required to travel for specific projects, conferences, seminars, etc.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure dissemination of ownership responsibilities for regulatory, corporate, and internal obligations throughout all business functions.
- Conducts workplace surveys, safety audits, risks assessments, etc. and advises management of conditions requiring corrective action and tracks resolutions to an effective closure.
- Supports incident investigations and data/trend analysis to determine root cause, produces and maintains necessary documentation and ensures that all applicable reporting requirements are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Briefs the operations leadership on programs, trends, and action plans.
- Supports all aspects of EHS&S performance, including injury reduction and avoidance, environmental sustainability initiatives, and meeting EHS&S regulatory and company requirements.
- Develop, deploy and verify policies, programs, and tools to support a best-in-class EHS management system striving for Zero Injuries, Zero Risk, and Zero Impact.
- Focuses on continuous improvement and management of change of EHS&S programs in processes, systems, and products. Focus areas: Ergonomics, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, Hazard and Risk Assessments, Hazardous Waste, Industrial Hygiene, and Laser Safety.
- Supports internal and external audits to ensure regulatory and L3Harris requirements, to include but not limited to facilities permits and licenses, training, certifications, inspections.
- Ensures site meets deadlines and execute company EHS programs effectively.
- Remains current with all applicable city/state/federal regulations and company policies.
- Performs related duties or special projects as directed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience, or a graduate degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Experience with vendors and consultants for EHS&S compliance.
- Experience with city, county, state, federal regulatory agencies.
- Ability to research technical information as required.
- Ability to manage time and projects.
- Technical understanding of environmental and occupational health and safety regulations and practices.
- Ability to work under general, consultative direction and manage programs independently.
- Communication skills (written, verbal, presentation).
- Competent computer skills related to Microsoft office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Capable of explaining and influencing changes to make improvements in policies, practices, or approaches.
- United States citizenship is required for this position.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- EHS-related professional accreditations: Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Professional Ergonomist, Professional Engineer, etc.
- Practical experience developing, training, and implementing EHS&S programs.
- Involvement in high performance programs: VPP, ISO 45001, 14001
- Root cause analysis skills (experienced with 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone)
- Experience using and leveraging EHS&S common systems, such as Gensuite, Sphera, Skillsoft
- Teamwork, interpersonal, problem-solving, and analysis skills
- Exhibits sound judgment and professionalism in all situations.
- Ability to use data visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI to analyze data for use in developing proactive prevention plans.
