About the Role:
In this role, the Manufacturing Engineering Specialist will lead critical activities and execute tasks that support business initiatives. You will actively engage in collaborative environments to represent the team, provide and receive feedback. Regularly influence project scopes and objectives contributing to an improved outcome. Develop a thorough understanding of company standards and processes, including the WESCAM product and its test processes to provide procedural and technical guidance around root cause investigations and process improvements. Leverage a seasoned multifaceted approach to seek out, plan and execute on enhancements to operational processes and team performance while mitigating risk. This position opens the path to bridge leadership and technical accountability, with consistent interactions between management and the Systems Manufacturing Engineering team. Success begins with a forward thinking, risk mitigating approach that provides support and guidance for the team.
Responsibilities
- Continuously align support for the team by gauging the needs of the team members and outside stake holders.
- Proactively identify tasks and requirements for the Systems OE team as factory demands arise.
- Demonstrate agility and accountability in executing, assigning and managing project tasks and goals with the Systems Operation Engineering team members.
- Provide guidance to the team on best practices of process development and project management.
- Create and execute team processes that enhance the day to day, week to week alignment, information flow and KPIs.
- Mentor and coach less experienced team members to achieve daily targets and project goals.
- Foster and maintain a peer to peer feedback forum that encourages the development of robust test and integration processes.
- Identify short and long to risks and communicate them to various areas of the organization and levels of leadership.
- Assist in coaching cell frontline team members to achieve KPI targets set by organizational goals (HPU, RW, FPY, OTD)
- Actively explore methods to achieve an optimal Integration and Test Process using tools such as Statistical Process Control, Design of Experiments, PFMEA.
- Utilize data and first hand involvement to expose failure trends and propose improvements to the Integration and Test Process.
- Define and lead team meetings required to track project deliverables with team members (sustaining and NPI).
- Provide technical support to other areas of the organization including all Operations engineering disciplines, Customer Service Groups, In-Country Assembly, Supply Chain and Design Engineering.
- Contribute to the validation of project proposals for alignment to business goals and feasibility.
- Build relationships across the organization that clarify and support quality project initiatives.
- Develop and maintain the onboarding process for new Systems Manufacturing Engineering team members.
- Support the management team in the performance assessment of personnel during yearly reviews.
- Participate in developing and maintaining the related Manufacturing Engineering processes and standards.
- Work alongside Design Engineering for resolution of systemic issues across all product lines.
- Support strategic initiatives across the business, focusing on solutions which protect and benefit the team
- Develop a strong presence across Operations Engineering and other areas of the business to maximize collaboration and synergy in an effort to meet project goals.
- Actively participate in Production sustaining meetings and NPI stage gates.
- Contribute to the technology road map for Systems OE.
- Complete other tasks and projects as assigned by the management team and senior peers.

- Strong working knowledge of Project Management fundamentals.
- Coaching and mentoring using essentials of Emotional Intelligence.
- Approachable and can demonstrate active listening when interacting with peers and colleagues.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Must have a well-rounded engineering and/or process background with manufacturing engineering experience in a high tech environment (preferred).
- University degree, or 3-year College diploma coupled with relevant work experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or Systems Engineering.
- Leadership experience is an asset.
- Lean Green Belt Certification or equivalent industry experience.
- PMP designation an asset, but not required.
- P.Eng or C.E.T designation an asset, but not required.
- AS9100 knowledge and experience an asset, but not required.
- C# or similar coding language and asset, but not required.
