L3Harris in Tewkesbury and Fleet form part of our ICI division. In the land domain, our T7 and T4 multi-mission robots deliver next-generation remote capabilities and uncompromised performance. We design and manufacture world-leading land force protection systems, cyber and electromagnetic activities (CEMA), electronic warfare (EW) and encryption capabilities. Our cyber capabilities provide an information advantage in the fields of kinetic conflict, cyber warfare, force protection and counterterrorism.
We are looking for an experienced Technical Authority, Solutions Architect or Systems Engineering Lead with project leadership experience to join our Engineering team to lead an exciting new programme.

What the role will involve
The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
- Working alongside a project management team leading a programme requiring rapid delivery of bespoke engineering solutions in the defence arena
- Working directly (including regular on-site) with customers and users to help derive architectures and solutions from requirements in challenging environments
- Working rapidly and with agility across an array of projects, from small tasks to more complex projects and leading engineering contributions to the outcomes
- Working on the research and development of cutting-edge technology across a range of different fields, including Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and Electronic Warfare
- Leading the architectural design of complex engineering solutions sometimes consisting of any combination of digital electronics, RF, embedded software, firmware and mechanical elements
- Contributing regularly to the generation of technical proposals, bids and presentations.
- Leading and influencing other members of the engineering, project management and commercial teams to achieve a common goal
What you’ll bring
The role requires the following experience and skills:
- Experienced senior-level engineer or scientist, degree qualified in Electronics, Communications, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Mathematics or similar.
- At least five years of experience within systems, software or hardware engineering within the defence and/or security markets.
- Experience leading and delivering projects and products.
- Experience leading teams and an aptitude to lead and influence others.
- Big picture thinking – the ability to understand, describe, document and present an abstracted view of a complex system through a variety of media
- Ability to translate complex user needs into a high-level solution which may involve a mix of engineering development and the procurement and integration of COTs products
- Ability to communicate across subcontract organisations to find and analyse the best solutions to customer needs
- Very strong communication skills working with a wide range of people both inside and outside the organisation and an ability to lead and influence engineers, project managers, commercial staff and others
- Ability to conduct engineering development with uncertain and sometimes rapidly changing customer requirements
- An awareness of software, embedded software, FPGA and Electronic design (digital and/or RF)
