Job Description:
Aerojet-Rocketdyne Coleman Aerospace, an L3Harris Technologies Company (Coleman Aerospace) is seeking a Lead Software Engineer at our Orlando, FL location. Coleman Aerospace is a prime tactical and strategic missile target system provider supporting ballistic missile defense testing. High-Fidelity Air-Launched one, two, and three stage ballistic missile targets are their primary product line. Coleman’s capabilities range from the precision assembly of large missile structures, to telemetry, avionics, networks, cold gas control systems, flight termination control modules, advanced vehicle guidance systems, environmental stress screening, qualification and acceptance testing.
The Lead Software Engineer role will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and testing of mission critical and support software packages. As a contributor to a software development team, the candidate will perform requirements derivation, requirements analysis, design, implementation, test and integration of real-time control system and/or application software. As a lead Engineer, the candidate will be expected to be self-motivated and take on leadership roles within the team where they will manage the development or maintenance of new features or products.
Essential Functions:
- Perform software development in C/C++ for real-time and non-real-time software applications running on QorIQ, Real-time Linux, and Windows platforms.
- Lead the development of new software features or products independently or as a team lead.
- Perform software maintenance of existing software products.
- Provide communication of status to the Software Manager and Program Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead.
- Support internal and customer reviews of software development work products.
- Implement algorithms within an embedded, bare metal, real-time C software application on a TI Digital Signal Processor (DSP).
- Develop and maintain Data Reduction and User Interface Software utilizing Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) in C++ and Winforms in C#.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum 9 years of prior relevant Software Engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. Requires strong knowledge of job area.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience working with real-time embedded software written in C/C++.
- Thorough knowledge of object-oriented techniques.
- Ability to comfortably work under Windows and Linux environments.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills to include report writing, requirements derivation, and documentation, as well as design review presentations.
- Real-time embedded programming experience with VxWorks, Greenhills, or similar RTOS.
- Experience in architecture of flight control and embedded control software products.
- Working knowledge of communication protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, RS-232, RS-422, and Mil-Std-1553.
- Must be comfortable in presenting to large groups of customers during design reviews and technical interchange meetings.
- Experience in CMMI 3 or higher work environment.
- Prior experience developing software for real-time control of events and/or synchronization.
- Simulation software on a Real-Time Linux operating system in C++ and Fortran
- Familiar with use of oscilloscopes, test equipment, and probes.
- Experience in Visual C++ (MFC) 6.0 or higher is desired.
- Experience in C# and Winforms is desired.
