Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist for our Space and Sensors division, located in Mason, OH. The EHS Specialist will join a local team of EHS professionals along with a network of EHS professionals around the globe.

- Laser/Radiation background.
The EHS Specialist will be responsible for working with the EHS Manager to implement, and maintain the policies, programs, and procedures within the L3Harris Environment Health and Safety management system. The EHS Professional will ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, federal, state, local and customer (DoD) requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Provides hands-on support and guides local operations to success in EHS goals and objectives.
- Conducts workplace surveys, safety audits, risks assessments, etc. and advises management of conditions requiring corrective action and tracks resolutions to an effective closure.
- Performs and/or facilitates training and safety briefings for all site personnel, including but not limited to new hire onboarding, visitors and contractors varying from awareness level to task-specific training as it relates to EHS expectations.
- Supports accident investigations to determine probable cause, produces and maintains necessary documentation and ensures that all applicable reporting requirements are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Experience with sustaining and improving environmental sustainability program, e.g., energy, water, waste reporting and reduction initiatives.
- Able to apply knowledge of regulatory requirements including but not limited to required site permits and licenses, PPE, training, certifications, inspections, audits, hazardous waste pickups, fire prevention etc.
- Maintains and administers facility hazardous waste management program for Large Quantity Generators – Hazardous Waste Program, Hazardous Communications-Global Harmonization Systems (GHS), performing weekly container inspections, appropriate labeling, Emergency Procedures, and Hazardous properties.
- Completes other similar tasks as required and assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with minimum of 4 years relevant experience.
- Graduate Degree in related field with minimum 2 years relevant experience.
- In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- 3 or more years of experience with safety culture change programs and injury reduction initiatives.
- 3 or more years of experience in executing EHS programs in a highly regulated environment including requirements from OSHA, EPA, DOT, County and other state, local or federal agencies.
- 3 or more years of experience with Microsoft office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint along with ability to research technical information as required
- Must be a United States Citizen.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Dynamic and active communicator, specifically the ability to personally lead selected projects and communicate with internal stakeholders and external entities.
- Practical skills and application of Safety, Environmental and Health/ Industrial Hygiene programs such as Lock out Tag out, Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety and Live Work Electrical, Ergonomics, Hazardous Communication/Chemical Safety, Contractor Management, Behavior Based Safety Systems and Emergency Response.
- Demonstrated collaboration skills working effectively locally and throughout a matrixed environment.
- Ability to work on projects with general supervision and may provide direction or review other’s project work.
- Familiarity with aerospace, defense, or manufacturing industries.
- Knowledge of Gensuite or other EHS common systems, databases and reporting tools.
- Involvement in a high performance program, VPP, SHARP, ISO 45001, 14001, 9001.
- Certifications: DOT Hazardous Waste Shipper, OSHA HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications and EHS related certifications or ability to acquire them within 1st year of employment.
