Job Description:
Field Engineering Specialist with significant roles in project and technical support for the installation, grooming, operation, maintenance, and modification of complex electronic systems installed on land and sea-based platforms. The primary work for this position will be a team-member supporting the Shipboard Data System installed on US Navy submarines, as well as flight test instrumentation used onboard US and UK Navy ballistic missile submarines for flight test events.
Responsible for projects and processes within the Kings Bay group, achieving operational targets for electronics systems assembly, assessment, testing, and installation for the Navy customer. Occasionally support operational Navy testing events as a watch stander providing safety information and data collection. Responsible to assist in short-notice independent assessments and decisions for technical areas of responsibility, and during critical and time-sensitive Navy flight tests.
Assigned tasking requires some communication within the Integrated Technical Solutions and Range and Test Solutions groups, as well as some coordination with external supporting contractors and Navy customers. Requires guiding, coaching, and training other employees on areas of responsibility for project execution. Support of electronics systems includes general analysis, problem solving, procedure/process development, and innovations.
Requires the employee to frequently make decisions with matters of significance for the organization.
Requires discretion and independent judgement.
Requires near and long-distance travel to for contracted work on a varying schedule.
Requires supporting various tasking at the home location when not on travel, to include inventory control, production builds, repairs, systems grooming, on-the-job training, mentoring others, maintaining log books, filing reports, and other tasking as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Travel of 10-25% of the time to US and UK locations. Varies per year.
- Infrequently embark on US and UK submarines.
- Ability to climb and work on elevated platforms.
- Support occasional weekend work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree and minimum 4 years of prior related experience, or Graduate Degree and minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Possess, or have the ability to obtain, a Top Secret Clearance.
- 4 years of experience with analog and digital test equipment to troubleshoot, test and/or validate complex electronic systems.
- 4 years of experience conducting electronic troubleshooting and repair with quality assurance workmanship skills.
- 4 years of experience conducting electronic systems installation and testing.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Ability to operate independently strong management and leadership experience.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to coordinate within the group and with external customers on areas of project responsibility.
- General analysis, problem solving, and innovation in assigned area of responsibility.
- Ability to review, follow, and provide recommended improvements to documented procedures.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
