The L3Harris Surveillance and Automation Solutions Business Area has an opening for a Sr. Specialist Integration and Test Engineer for air traffic surveillance. The L3Harris Surveillance and Automation Solutions Business Area is a recognized, vibrant, and growing organization providing unsurpassed engineering, management, operations, implementation, and information solutions for worldwide Air Traffic Control. We are in the forefront of the FAA's NextGen Airspace Modernization Programs, international Air Traffic Control Systems initiatives, and next generation timing and location solutions.

The successful candidate will be involved in all phases of the system life cycle for Air Traffic Management systems. This individual will be a key participant in requirements analysis and system design, system integration and test, and operational support. These systems incorporate geographically dispersed sensors and radios, external data feeds, multiple applications running on centralized servers, monitoring subsystems, data conversion equipment, and data delivery subsystems located at customers’ facilities.

Essential Functions: 

  • Ability to lead other test Engineers to achieve verification and validation goals and milestones.
  • Participate in the development and analysis of system and subsystem requirements.
  • Develop plans and procedures to verify and validate (V&V) performance of the systems with respect to the underlying requirements.
  • Conduct test and verification activities. Test activities will take place primarily at L3Harris' Herndon facility but may also be performed at customer location.
  • Document test results and write test reports. Present these results to management and the customer.
  • Integrate hardware and software system components within a lab environment.
  • Automate existing regression test suit which is currently executed manually.
  • Ability to provide PMs and EM project status and understand earned value performance.
  • Provide network administration support to proposal and pursuits, including estimation of effort, and completion of Basis of Estimates.
  • Travel 10% as needed to perform onsite testing.

Qualifications: 

  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Minimum of eight years’ experience in large-scale national and international network design, implementation, and operations.
  • Ability to conduct root-cause analysis of issues related to the network and recommend corrective action.
  • Experience trouble-shooting complex systems consisting of hardware, software, and communications systems.
  • Previous experience using Linux operating systems.
  • Experience estimating engineering effort in support of network design, implementation, and operations.
  • Candidate should be able to work independently, able to prioritize customer issues and needs, and work across a wide variety of systems.
  • Understanding of scripting language such as Python, Bash and other widely used automation languages.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • The successful candidate will possess strong initiative with an ability to work in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
  • Previous experience with FAA systems/programs is a plus.
  • Hands- on experience performing data analysis and developing visualization using scripting languages.
  • Hands-on experience with avionics, RF data links, RADAR systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux environments.
  • The successful candidate will possess strong initiative, curiosity, and desire to learn.
