Job Description: L3Harris Technologies Inc. is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join our team in supporting Technical Order (TO) development activities for a portfolio of systems under the Combat Mission Systems Support (CMSS) contract. The Technical Writer will be integrated into the program team, working with engineers to gain system understanding to develop TOs for Operations, Maintenance, and Setup/Teardown. TO development activities include capturing new technologies and capabilities in new documents, as well as integrating updated data into routine sustainment updates on existing documents.
Essential Functions:
Create, develop, plan, write and edit documentation for all phases of TO development and sustainment in accordance with MIL-STDs, TO 00-5 series references, and all other military and Space Force (SF) compliance directives
- Perform research using technical data and engineering specifications (engineering drawings, A-level specifications, test procedures, etc.) or commercial sources and translate data into user documentation
- Work as part of cross-functional team, made up of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), to accomplish technical writing assignments
- Ability to follow style guides, templates, Process Directives (PD), and other associated Department of Defense (DoD)/Military standards for TO production and TO processes
- Understand customer requirements related to writing task assignments
- Coordinate with Technical Trainers and participate in development of Type 1 training packages (Lesson Plan, Student Guide, Instructor Guide, Course Syllabus, and presentation material) for each TO development task
Qualifications:
- Active Top Secret (TS) clearance, with ability to obtain TS/SCI
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience
- Available to travel to support TO Certification/Verification events, as needed
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active TS/SCI Security Clearance
- Experience with Technical Writing Publishing tools (Adobe FrameMaker or similar tool)
- Extensive working knowledge with Adobe FrameMaker and Illustrator
- Proficient with MS Office applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Visio, Excel, and Outlook)
- Familiarity with the TO development processes
- Experience working on or maintaining SF SATCOM systems
- Independently interpret and follow written technical instructions and procedures, as well as the ability to work harmoniously in a team environment with government customers and other contractors
- Strong technical background with the ability to translate technical and SME information into consistent and accurate written procedural content
- Strong writing, editing, and proof-reading skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- DoD and/or Military work experience
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado is $71.500 - $132,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
