From 12 UK sites, our team of over 1,400 people deliver unique capabilities across air, land, sea, space and cyber for military, security and commercial customers, worldwide.

L3Harris in Bristol/Burgess Hill/Barrow provides enduring, robust and cutting-edge Integrated Platform Management Systems (IPMS) for the UK Royal Navy sub-surface and surface fleets, notably current Astute submarine and Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carriers, in-build Type 26 and Type 31 frigates.

In this role, you will be the functional manager of the control software team including development of the capability, management of resource demand, recruitment and optimisation of processes across all of the MAPPS UK Ltd projects.

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

  • Taking a leading role in the development of all software engineering processes; covering Agile approaches, configuration control, safety related development, improvement and evolution of process and procedure
  • Set clear standards and procedures for the software aspects of project development and delivery, tracking project progress and generating reports to stakeholders
  • Acting as the Software Technical Authority on T26 PMS project covering resource allocation in Sprint Teams, estimation, progress tracking, client liaison on Software Engineering issues, develop initiatives to improve quality and productivity
  • Managing and developing a team of software engineers, fostering great communication between team members and vertically through the organisation
  • Ensure that the team has appropriate technical competencies, skills and behaviors and developing the team to support future growth and technology/product roadmaps

What you’ll bring

The role requires the following experience and skills:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a Software Engineering role
  • Experience of leading and making improvements to software development methodologies (Agile and/or Waterfall) and processes
  • Experience in configuration control and change processing 
  • Experience of leading software engineering development projects through the software lifecycle
  • An appreciation of a software language would be beneficial
