L3Harris in Bristol/Burgess Hill/Barrow provides enduring, robust and cutting-edge Integrated Platform Management Systems (IPMS) for the UK Royal Navy sub-surface and surface fleets, notably current Astute submarine and Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carriers, in-build Type 26 and Type 31 frigates.

The successful applicant will receive exposure and experience working on large scale projects with opportunities to advance their career in the field of software engineering. The applicant shall have worked in a professional engineering environment, be familiar with engineering processes and possess a strong appreciation of software development.

What the role will involve

The key responsibilities of the role are shown below:

Requirements Analysis:

• Reviewing requirements
• Derivation of additional requirements
• Appreciation of any system constrains

Software Design:

• Develop design to meet the requirements 
• Appreciate interfaces to other and existing systems

Code Generation & Unit Testing:

• To develop and modify control sequences and configurable software components
• Develop and execute unit tests
• Complete & participate in code reviews

Engineering Process:

• An appreciation of design, code and review processes
• Produce and maintain software documentation ensuring full traceability of the software throughout the lifecycle
• Participate in the full software lifecycle for control systems software adhering to company process and procedure
• Working as part of sprint team 

Other:

• To agree jointly with the T26 PMS project manager or project engineer (or delegated representatives) allocated tasks and timescales in accordance with company standards.

What you’ll bring

The role requires the following experience and skills:

• Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 5 years of prior related experience.
• Familiarity with software programming
• Eagerness to learn and interest in all aspects of automation system development
• Excellent presentation skills
• Excellent PC skills for documents, spreadsheets and databases
