From 11 UK sites, our team of nearly 1,000 people delivers unique capabilities across space, air, land, sea and cyber for military, security and commercial customers across the UK and worldwide.

L3Harris in Bristol/Burgess Hill/Barrow provides warship automation systems through control and simulation solutions that are in service on Albion Class Landing Platform Docks and Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers. More systems are being developed and delivered for Type 26 and Type 31 Frigates.

L3Harris in Portchester are the maritime industry’s autonomy partner of choice, we are powering the Royal Navy’s adoption of autonomous surface vehicle technology as well as delivering autonomous capability to UK ports, harbours and offshore energy service providers. We have delivered more than 100 autonomous surface vehicle (ASV) systems.

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead, mentor, and inspire our talented software teams across multiple UK sites within the maritime domain. This is an opportunity to shape the future of software solutions in the industry while putting people leadership at the heart of everything you do.

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

  • Leading People: Build, lead, and inspire multidisciplinary software engineering teams across multiple UK sites, creating a culture where people feel motivated, valued and supported to achieve their best.
  • Empowering Growth: Mentor, coach and develop your teams.
  • Driving Delivery: Oversee the successful delivery of complex software systems, ensuring quality, efficiency, and alignment with stakeholder needs.
  • Strategic Workforce Planning: Drive workforce planning and resource management to ensure your teams are optimally placed to deliver high-quality engineering outcomes.
  • Championing Innovation: Drive the adoption of new tools, methodologies, and approaches to ensure your teams stay at the forefront of software engineering excellence.

What you’ll bring

The role requires the following experience and skills:

  • Equivalent of Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience working on complex engineering projects.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing software engineering teams, ideally in defense, maritime or similarly complex domains.
  • A people first leader with a passion for empowering individuals and teams to achieve their potential.
  • A strong background in software engineering practices, including agile methodologies, software lifecycle management, and systems integration.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and foster collaboration across diverse teams and stakeholders.
