Job Description: 

Reporting through to L3Harris’ Maritime Sector, the L3Harris MAPPS (“MAPPS”) General Manager is responsible for the strategic direction and overall P&L performance of the global L3Harris MAPPS business, a leading global supplier of ITAR-Free controls and simulation solutions for marine, power and space sectors as well as naval communications systems. Headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the MAPPS business has operations across Canada, United Kingdom, India, Germany, Australia and Malaysia.

The General Manager will lead a team of senior managers to manage and grow the businesses; establish overall direction and adherence to company’s processes, policies and systems; establish and maintain close relationships with customers, industry teammates and functional partners.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop a vision, strategy and associated tactics for the MAPPS business that drives operational excellence and achieves growth targets;
  • Provide leadership and guidance to cross-functional, international teams in the execution of major programs and projects;
  • Establish, grow and maintain close customer relationships, participate in the marketing and sales process, and actively promote the organization’s capabilities and strengths; ensure that customer perspective is a driving force behind business decisions and activities;
  • Collaborate with senior leaders across L3Harris Surface and C5 Systems to improve overall execution on joint projects and programs;
  • Lead and manage the current business portfolio and engage with program and project teams to meet Customer technical and schedule needs while also achieving financial performance targets;
  • Provide leadership to business development activities associated with MAPPS programs, including strategic business planning, new business forecasting and strategic business capture;
  • Translate strategic priorities into operational reality by aligning communication, accountabilities, resource capabilities, internal processes, and ongoing measurement systems;
  • Drive high standards for individual, team, and organizational accomplishment through teamwork and empowerment; tenaciously work to meet or exceed challenging goals and foster continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience managing a global team in the aerospace & defense market, working with National Defense, ship builders and prime contractors, with much of that time in a senior management role with experience leading and motivating a diverse workforce focused on system integration;
  • 3-5 years of experience in program management in the defense sector, preferably in the maritime segment
  • At least 7 years of experience working closely with business development, program management, engineering, and operations teams to build a cohesive organization in a global environment with varied international customers; 
  • Demonstrated experience as a strategic thinker that understands where the market is going, where future opportunities lie, and how to align a business to pursue and achieve victory in those markets;
  • Proven success managing and developing customer relations including the ability to understand customer needs and institute systems, processes, and procedures to ensure customer satisfaction;
  • Proven ability to implement effective initiatives that improve employee engagement and satisfaction leading to high employee retention;
  • A strong natural leadership style that moves people to take action, motivates and inspires excellence
  • A prudent change agent, able to quickly assimilate to a new organization effectively;
  • Must be results-oriented with a focus on performance, cost management and profitable bottom-line.  Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding targets goals and strong skills in program execution to schedule and budget;
  • Knowledge of lean/continuous improvement (e3) principles to assess organizational effectiveness, reduce cost, and drive revenue;
  • Experience leading and managing in a functional matrix organization;
  • Capture Management and Proposal Management Experience;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering;
  • Experience in negotiating with international Government agencies for profitable contracts including pricing, offsets, etc.;
  • Required Canadian and NATO Secret clearance;
  • Working knowledge of French;
  • Fluency in any other language desirable.
