Job Description: 

L3Harris’ Communication Systems segment is currently seeking a Scientist level Systems Engineer to join our team. This position will be based at our Salt Lake City facility. 

Position Overview: 

This person will be responsible for leading the design and architecture of communications systems from a technical perspective and providing technical leadership for DoD programs. The System Engineer is responsible for the life-cycle support of communications systems from conceptual development through product phase-out, including but not limited to customer briefings, proposal writing, and customer requirements management. This will include technical documentation, technical project management, design oversight, prototype and production build and test support, integration, verification and qualification, system deployment support and in-house technical support during the operational life-cycle of the system. 

Essential Responsibilities:  

  • Systems engineering lead that organizes, participates, and manages key project/program engineering tasks 
  • Leads requirements analysis, requirements decomposition and assignment of requirements to appropriate functional areas of responsibility, and manages traceability of requirements back to customer specifications and system level derived requirements 
  • Leads design synthesis and generation of supporting design documentation which includes technical specifications, interface control documents, test plans and procedures, and test conformance to specifications through verification cross reference matrix (VCRM) 
  • Ensures technical performance, quality, and adherence to established policies and processes 
  • Develops and presents project/program design reviews for both internal and external customer audiences 
  • Leads or assists in project/program schedule and budget planning, subcontract control, risk management 
  • Leads or assists in management over systems engineering team and other teams of functional design engineers 
  • Leads or assists system integration, verification, and qualification events 
  • Participation in customer request for information (RFI), request for proposal (RFP) and new business development pursuits, including on-site and off-site technical capability demonstration 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior systems engineering experience.
  • A current and active US DoD Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Top Secret or TS/SCI security clearance 
  • Experience in product development a plus (preferably in military application environment).  
  • Experience in networking systems and performing work in a lab.
  • Hardware and/or Software Development program and/or lab integrations experience. 
  • Leadership skills, with the ability to guide the technical direction/vision for a given project. Must also be a strong contributor to integrated product teams internal and external to the company. 
  • An understanding of communication theory, with a working knowledge of digital design, RF design, mechanical design, network design, or software design of digital line-of-sight and satellite communication systems  
  • An active Secret or Top Secret US DoD clearance or the ability to obtain a US DoD clearance 
  • Experience in LTE, 4G, and 5G systems is strongly desired 
  • Experience in requirements management and documentation is a must. Other key skills are risk management, project planning, and technical project management 
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral) and formal presentation skills are required 
  • Candidate should be skilled in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, DOORs, or similar tools 
  • Experience with software programmable architectures is strongly desired. Design experience is preferred, as is experience in one or more of the following areas: high-rate communication systems, satellite communication systems, spread spectrum systems and communication networks 
  • Experience managing technical projects that include system integration, system verification, and formal qualification, including supporting integration and qualification events at customer locations
