Job Description

The L3Harris Autonomous Software Solutions Fellow leads the full life-cycle of complex system development, integration, testing, and deployment to meet mission goals of L3Harris customers. Responsible for the development of differentiating algorithms to provide L3Harris autonomy a competitive advantage over our competitors.  Develops software according to modern DevOps practices, and deployment to the customer system-of-systems enterprise. Utilizes modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques that enable autonomous agents to operate in complex environments. Understands development and deployment of AI/ML models through MLOps. Strengthens our AMORPHOUS™ Operating System and works hand in hand with Product Line Manager to plan technical insertions and capability releases.  Responsible for definition of system solutions based on customers’ current and future requirements. Builds application-based enhancements that improve the entire AMORPHOUS Family of Systems.  Takes on the most challenging roles and responsibilities confronting the software team. Maintains currency with industry trends, new technologies, and industry standards applicable to L3Harris products and missions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical subject matter expert to develop and deliver advanced scalable, collaborative algorithms and technologies adherent to government and industry standards.
  • Develop and deliver Semi-Real Time Optimal Course of Action Planning at the edge in which high-level tasks are decomposed and assigned to individual agents in support of a mission.. 
  • Develop and deliver Collaborative Multi-Modal Understanding at the edge, which can perceive, understand, and discern between observations (e.g., neutral, threat, etc.) utilizing its local sensors and learned information in addition to information from collaborative assets to improve situational awareness. 
  • Demonstrate coordinated autonomous ISR using multiple agents (UAVs and UGVs which may extend to maritime USVs) to explore the environment efficiently and effectively. Agents shall demonstrate a decentralized coordination approach to maximally identify (threat, neutral, friendly) and prioritize targets while also minimizing other constraints (e.g. path length, time, etc.).
  • Ability to develop and deliver collaborative autonomy solutions across heterogenous agents including, but not limited to, advanced behaviors, course of action, collaborate perception, multi-modal analysis, learning at the edge, scalable and resilient communications in denied environments, and alternative PNT techniques
  • Support and assist L3Harris with the integration of the developed software and services into hardware in support of demonstrations and field tests.​​  
  • Applies an inter-disciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop, and verify a balanced lifecycle of system and system-of-systems solutions
  • Evaluates customer operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters, and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
  • Drives enterprise solution offerings and future technology relevance to L3Harris customers
  • Leads and coordinates various (e.g., performance, cost, maintainability, obsolescence) analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture
  • Executes technical responsibilities within project cost and schedule constraints
  • Provides technical coordination between customer, industry (peers, suppliers), and internal engineering taskforce to handle technical issues
  • Prepares and presents “deep dive” technical information that addresses specific areas of interest
  • Leads a multi-discipline engineering group to ensure contractual requirements are met
  • Advocates customer’s critical needs (current and future) to L3Harris internal stakeholders
  • Analyzes and develops recommendations to resolve potential contractual technical issues at product delivery
  • Establishes, implements, and documents the technology integration or migration strategies
  • Has the ability to multi-task and work across a variety of programs
  • Ensures adequate product definition and documentation, coordinate closely with execution teams to ensure proper implementation and adherence to functional and performance specifications
  • Provides technical direction for the development, integration, and testing of complex hardware/software systems in space, aerial, maritime, and terrestrial domains
  • Leads and conducts trade studies required to make both tactical and strategic technical decisions for programs, and to define L3Harris technology roadmaps
  • Leads or participate in technical interchange meetings (TIMs) to manage project execution and resolve enterprise issues
  • Provides mentoring, guidance and leadership to junior engineers

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree from an accredited university in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics
  • 10+ years of relevant experience creating and implementing system architectures and complex mission solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver collaborative autonomy solutions across heterogenous agents in dynamic environments at scale, including advanced algorithms that improve agents’ behaviors.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with stakeholders and team leaders to identify needs and develop marketable system solutions with clear customer value
  • Proven and effective communications skills, interpersonal skills and customer focus are a must
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven leadership and experience collaborating in large, dynamic team environments
  • Proven business acumen and building toward profitable growth
  • Previous experience developing product for DoD / government customers
  • Ability to acquire a Security Clearance

Area of Specialty

  • Experience analyzing, developing, and integrating software algorithms to control neural and behavioral aspects of autonomous systems.
