Job Description:
Our sites in beautiful rural Camden, AR (~2 hours south of Little Rock, AR) and in Huntsville, AL (the high tech sector of aerospace and defense) are growing! Camden, AR is our center of excellence for Solid Rocket Motor Propulsion and Energetic manufacturing. Huntsville, AL contains our headquarters with all functional groups as well as two Advanced Manufacturing Facilities for inert components.
This position will support all programs in propellant and energetic material processing. A strong knowledge of propellant and energetic material mixing, casting, and cure is required. This position requires professional judgement and use and/or application of basic principles, theories, and concepts of manufacturing energetic materials including an understanding of the safety aspects of handling energetic materials. The selected individual will understand/review/update Standard Operating Procedures related to energetic material manufacturing. The selected individual will participate in all work stops, production bottleneck reviews, and failure investigations pertaining to energetic material (propellants and explosives). The individual will be self-motivated and will accurately report problems, solutions, and results in concise written and oral communications.
This position will be a dynamic position – moving from various programs to assess production, production bottlenecks, failures, non-conformances, and technology to increase yield and production throughput.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluate and implement tractable solutions to technical problems involving propellant and explosive mix/cast/cure operations
- Interprets engineering drawings and specifications, standard operating procedures, quality requirements (both customer and company), and applicable safety requirements for handling energetic material
- Prepares comprehensive analyses, procedures, reports, and presentations for customer reviews (both internal and external)
- Knowledge of chemical supply base and manufacturing techniques
- Travel: 25% Camden location preferred but if Huntsville site chosen, travel expected to Camden one week per month
- Ability to obtain a US security clearance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 15 years of prior energetic material processing experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior energetic material processing experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior energetic material processing experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Master Degree or PhD preferred
- Degree in chemistry, material science or related science and technical experience in the chemistry environment
- Experience with energetic materials, statistical analysis, data acquisition is a plus
- Explosives theory, compositions, and modeling is a plus
