Job Description:
The Aerojet Rocketdyne Business Segment of L3Harris is seeking an Associate Engineer, Materials and Processes to join our growing Huntsville, Alabama facility.
This position will work in the Advanced Manufacturing Facility’s (AMF) Materials and Process Engineering Laboratory and will be responsible for conducting tests to support material acceptance testing, material shelf-life extension testing, and inert materials characterization. This position will report to the Materials and Processes Engineering AMF Laboratory Manager in Huntsville, AL.
Essential Functions:
- Test non-metallic materials using a variety of measurement instruments such as balances, universal testing machines, ovens, hotplates, hydraulic presses, and more.
- Create, cure, and inspect non-metallic materials as needed, utilizing equipment such as ovens, caul plates, hydraulic presses, and autoclaves.
- Conduct testing according to ASTM/MIL/ISO etc standards, standard work documents, and custom work requests.
- Measure specific properties and record the data, performing calculations to generate a report, according to specification requirements.
- Assist investigations in manufacturing and development programs, suggesting specific relevant testing, and carefully presenting the extent of information gained.
- Communicate with members from other teams and departments to facilitate work and assist the enterprise.
- Maintain laboratory readiness and cleanliness through 5S+1, kitting, and continuous improvement.
- Travel is not expected with this position; however, maximum travel is estimated to be 10%
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or appropriate discipline with 0 to 2 years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- 3.2 GPA or above
- Basic knowledge of polymeric materials
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience working in a laboratory environment
