Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking an Lead, Electrical Engineer - (FPGA) Firmware to join our Engineering team in Phoenix, Arizona or St. Petersburg, FL.
This role will lead all FPGA firmware development activities. They will support digital design / FPGA design & verification. The position supports new product development and sustainment of current product lines, which includes avionics Surveillance, Recorders and Display products. The position will provide daily leadership for the technical activities to FPGA firmware engineering team members. They will own technical decision-making process for the product, enabling the team to make decisions in a rapid and successful manner. This engineer is responsible for engaging other engineering participants with discipline specific backgrounds to resolve issues and provide a unified engineering response. The role is key participant representing FPGA firmware engineering for the product line in all major product improvements and design changes, with a focus on continuity for the product’s technical strategy. The Lead FPGA Firmware Engineer will ensure technical, schedule and cost targets are met.
Essential Functions:
- Digital design
- FPGA design and verification
- Device migration across FPGA manufacturers
- Generation of schematics and review of PWA designs
- Generation of requirements, FPGA coding in various industry tools, FPGA verification and traceability mapping
- Work within established FPGA processes and checklists
- Support estimation activities associated with new and remapping FPGA design efforts
- Lead Root Cause Failure Investigations of digital designs
- Responsible for performing job duties consistent with L3Harris Ethics, Financial, Health and Safety Standards.
- Exhibit good leadership skills and have the ability to coach teammates on technical issues
- Work in a Continuous Improvement Culture
- Ability to work in a teaming environment, while possessing good interpersonal and communications skills
- Self-motivated to identify performance issues and provide potential solutions through strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Design and troubleshoot high reliability electronics
- Good understanding of product development lifecycle processes
- Work with test equipment and tools including multimeter, oscilloscopes, logic analyzer
- Hands-on, "roll-up-the-sleeves" approach.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Architecting, implementing high throughput digital cores / algorithms targeting SOC class FPGAs with interfaces - Ethernet (UDP, TCP/IP), AXI, PCIe/NVMe, USB
- Experience with Clock Domain Crossing, Reset Domain Crossing, Static Formal flows
- Experienced with resolving complex FPGA issues
- Experience in VHDL/Verilog, bonus if experienced with C++ (OOP), Perl/Tcl, Python
- Experience with Synthesis/PAR: SDC, Synopsys DC/Synplify, Vivado, Quartus, Libero
- Verification with UVM, Verification Ips Mentor EDA preferred.
- Experience with tool simulators; Aldec & ModelSim
- Ability to support geographically dispersed teams, including travel
- Support RTCA DO-254 design assurance guidance for airborne electronic hardware
- Knowledge of engineering design standards for commercial aviation industry
- Experience in packaging of high reliability electronics (aerospace, medical, automotive, or equivalent)
