Job Description:

L3Harris is looking for an Mechanical Assembler to performs a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic assemblies and subassemblies. The Mechanical Assembler will also assisting on the Deep Space Advanced Radar Concept (DARC) project started by the US Air Force in 2017 is a network of sensors, which is planned to be developed to track active satellites and debris beyond geostationary orbit. This includes program management, antenna & radar front end development, test, and supporting integration and system-level test activity requirements for Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC) Rapid Prototype (RP) as implemented by the Space and Missile Systems Center, Directorate of Special Programs, Ground Based Radars (SMC/SPGR) division. The scope of effort for this contract includes the design, procurement, manufacture, integration, and test of antenna systems/subsystems at our facility. This multi year contract will include future field installation and support internationally.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs a wide variety of complex assembly operations on mechanical parts, assemblies, and subassemblies such as modules, panels, racks, or cabinets.
  • Interprets and follows diagrams, T.O. specifications, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
  • Makes initial layouts must be able to assemble close tolerance parts and use a wide variety of hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Checks for work correctness and for conformance to specifications.
  • May disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble experimental or prototype assemblies and subassemblies according to specifications.
  • Mechanical assembly of large antenna systems and sub-assemblies, gearboxes, large diameter bearings, etc.
  • Uses hand tools and various epoxies to perform operations.
  • Interfaces with engineering, quality assurance, and test personnel to ensure subassemblies are inspected and tested at specified checkpoints.
  • Work to be performed requires heavy lifts involving the use of cranes, forklifts and man lifts.
  • May also be assigned to small assembly detailed work.
  • Interface with members of multiple departments like Engineer, Quality Assurance and Test Engineering to ensure subassemblies are tested at specified check points.
  • May be required to travel for field work to install and assemble systems under supervision.
  • Sets the highest ethical standards for self and others.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Traveling as needed.


  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience working at heights.
  • Experience operating forklifts.
  • Experience using hand tools.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blue prints.
  • Knowledge of standard calipers and dial indicators.
  • General knowledge of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) control and tool control processes.
