Job Description:

L3Harris Sonoma EO, is looking for a dynamic contributor who can drive development of electronics for EO/IR solutions. They will have engineering responsibilities supporting the synthesis, definition, analysis, design, development, integration & test of electro-optic systems for airborne, ground, and maritime surveillance systems. This role has technical responsibilities with with challenging timelines, working to achieve a collective goal: deliver innovative, vital solutions within a fraction of the time and cost of industry norms.

L3Harris Sonoma EO is a team of visionaries located in Santa Rosa, CA (the heart of wine country and just 50 miles north of San Francisco). We develop advanced, next-generation Electro Optical / Infrared (EO/IR) stabilized imaging systems. Essential Functions:

The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

  • Responsible for designing, developing, modifying, evaluating and integrating electronic equipment, electronic parts, components, or integrated circuitry for complex, high performance hardware systems.
  • Analyzes electrical requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
    • Conduct independent technical investigations to improve system performance or solve difficult system issues
    • Diagnose complex faults in existing systems and recommend design changes to improve performance
    • Utilize high level programming language to configure programmable logic devices (DSP & FPGA).
    • Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results.
    • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
    • Able to identify component operational characteristics that may impact system performance and or sustainability.
    • May also review vendor capability to support development. Includes the application of specialized skill sets including digital, FPGA, DSP, CCA, power, antenna, RF and control systems knowledge as required.
      • Work with procurement and suppliers to build prototype circuit boards
      • Coordinate with other functional engineers to develop, test, and integrate systems
      • Perform unit testing of hardware products
      • Work with other functional areas to develop requirements, specifications, & test plans
      • May manage the design and execution (i.e. scope, schedule, budget and staffing) of projects as well as the development and improvement of engineering processes.
        • Prioritize and manage multiple projects to specification and budget requirements
        • Provide timely production support and problem resolution
        • Proactively collaborates with functional and business leadership teams to support business and program requirements and demands.
          • Follow internal process to ensure conformance to established policies and procedures
          • Recommend design approaches to meet requirements on new or existing products

Qualifications

  • Education – B.S. Degree in an electronics-related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. M.S. Degree preferred.
  • Experience – 5 years of related experience with B.S. Degree; 3 years with M.S. Degree.
  • Experience in at least 5 of the following areas and basic capability in the other areas:
    • Required: Significant knowledge of circuit design, schematic capture and PCB (printed circuit board) layout using ECAD tools (Altium preferred).
    • Experience in harness wiring assembly development.
    • Experience in board and system bring up, integration, validation, troubleshooting.
    • Experience analyzing and designing digital circuits that incorporate FPGAs, CPU’s, GPU’s, and DSPs
    • Experience in Analog design such as: Motor drivers, power circuits, EMC/EMI noise reduction, motion control methods
    • Experience in simulation and analysis of designs.
    • Knowledge of general electronics, digital design, analog control, power distribution, signal integrity, data and video communications
    • Understanding of EMI/RFI and respective troubleshooting and design corrections/mitigations.
    • Understanding of the hardware development process, documentation, quality assurance, board turn-on and debug integration testing
    • Experience with VHDL
    • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a security clearance.

Competencies:

Technical Acumen – Demonstrated through successful product development experience involving complex electronic system development. Able to show a history of complex design realization utilizing Analog, FPGA, CPU, GPU, and DSP technologies. Able to show solution development spanning architecture, development and testing.

Requirements Development – A demonstrated background in interpretation of system requirements to generate electronic subsystem requirements and specifications.

Creative Solutions – Direct contribution to technical solutions that integrate multiple disciplines or technologies into systems that provide unique and differentiated capability; requires understanding of current and proposed technologies, as well as the interplay between technologies and engineering design.

Test & Verification – Can articulate what and how key system performance parameters should be tested, can outline and write verification test plans, can perform testing and analyze results.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $83,500-$155,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
