Job Description:
The Component Engineer provides required support to design and project engineering during the development, pre-production, and production phases of our new and heritage products and designs. They also function as the responsible Component Engineer and as such will be the focal point for all EEE parts selection and reliability testing related actions for their products or product lines.
Essential Functions:
- Provide Electrical, Electronic, Electromagnetic (EEE) part expertise and support on Space and other High-Reliability programs, review customer Statements of Work (SOW's) and specifications to identify parts requirements.
- Assess components for compliance to program and industry PMP requirements (INST-002, TOR, JEDEC, etc.)
- Generate plans, procedures, and EEE part procurement and screening documents (SCD's, SoCD’s, SID's, and AID's) for military and aerospace programs as required by MIL/NASA standards and/or contract.
- Write and review Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to component level procurement and test control documents.
- Review screening and test data received from manufacturers and test laboratories for compliance to specifications, purchase order requirements, and program contract compliance.
- Evaluate defective components and failure analysis reports as required. Interface internally with Electrical Design Engineers, Reliability Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, and Quality Engineers in support of risk mitigation and material review efforts.
- Perform and review key Reliability Analyses: Prediction, Derating, FMECA, etc.
- Apply military and aerospace industry reliability criteria (MIL-HDBK-217F, MIL-STD-1547B, etc.) to analyses and coordinate adjustments for compliance with designers.
Qualifications:
- BS degree in a technical field (Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Material Science or equivalent) with 4 years of related work experience or Master’s degree and 2 years of related work experience.
- Experience with evaluating defective components and failure analysis reports.
- Experience with writing and reviewing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to component level procurement and test control documents.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- An active DoD clearance
- Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a related field is not required but is a benefit
- Knowledge and working history with key reliability analyses for space mission hardware (prediction, derating, FMECA, WCA)
- Experience with radiation effects of electronics (TID, SEE) and common mitigation techniques.
- Familiarity with component level radiation effects in the natural space environment
