Job Description:

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the proper use and functioning of the mainframe ERP manufacturing planning system. This includes MRP, production work order release, material allocations, BOM’s, capacity and load planning, and project and WorkCenter schedule execution. Minimal supervision of daily activities will be required with independent judgment relative to work activities expected.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Reviews the MRP (Material Requirements Planning) reports daily, validates the output for accuracy and initiates corrective action for discrepant issues.
  2. Interface with Purchasing to resolve due date and shortage issues prior to work order release.
  3. Reviews MRP and Reports Net reports daily for actions. Reports to include the MRP exception message report, Allocation of Excess Inventory report, Open Work Order report, WorkCenter labor and dispatch report, and Project Shortage report.
  4. Manages the work order process to include revision control, material availability, work order release, start and completion date maintenance, material allocation changes, Work Center labor requirements, material and labor variance analysis, and released BOM’s and routers.
  5. Assist Work Centers in dispatch report management and execution, work order prioritization and schedule management.
  6. Assist in generating production schedules and WorkCenter capacity load schedules.
  7. Notify the Master Scheduler when available resources do not support the production plan (MPS) or meeting the contract date is at risk.
  8. Manage and execute project production schedules to meet the Master Schedule and contract delivery dates
  9. Performs other duties as assigned by Management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Requires proficient knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have practical knowledge of project management. Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.

Must be computer literate and possess the acumen to quickly learn the ERP Manufacturing Planning system as it relates to Production Control and Inventory Management.

Must have a complete understanding of ERP Manufacturing Planning Systems primarily MRP (Material Requirements Planning) and MRP-II (Manufacturing Resource Planning). Experience and understanding of requirements in the requisitioning, purchasing, stocking, control and issuance of inventory.

Minimum (4) four years’ experience in production planning in an environment producing electro/mechanical products for the military. Must have basic knowledge of blueprint readings and interpretation of documentation used in the fabrication and production of electromechanical products. Should have rudimentary knowledge of the processes and procedures required to fabricate, wire and assemble electromechanical sub-assemblies, assemblies, and systems.

Capable of generating moderately complex spreadsheets and reports utilizing: Microsoft Excel (pivot tables) and Microsoft Word.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATIONS

APICS certification is highly desirable.
