Job Description:
Software Configuration Management is a specialty engineering support role that performs configuration management (CM) functions to establish consistency of product performance, functional, and physical attributes with its requirements, design, and operational information. The primary goal of this role is to maintain the integrity of system documentation, software, firmware, design artifacts, baselines, records, and associated configuration information using established configuration processes and controls. This role also provides additional on-demand support to various engineering and program management teams as a subject matter expert for analyses, consultations, special topic discussions, tools support, DevOps support, and other tasking as required.
Essential Functions:
- Implements established configuration management documentation, processes, and principles in an Agile development environment.
- Administers existing configuration management toolsets, to include Agile Product Data Management (PDM), Rational ClearQuest, Windchill, and/or JIRA.
- Understands and complies with Contract Statements of Work, policies, procedures, plans, and other technical documentation.
- Provides advice and guidance on configuration management methods, tools, procedures, and requirements to project team members responsible for the creation of software and documentation.
- Acts as a liaison between management and other functional groups to resolve issues regarding configuration processes and records.
- Performs program audits to verify compliance with contract requirements.
- Performs branching activities for software releases.
- Works with a high degree of attention to detail and is entrusted to enable on-time quality delivery of all work products for multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.
- Facilitates the Configuration Change Board (CCB) process by reviewing software releases and associated records submitted by engineers, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and contract personnel, modifying as needed to ensure clarity, compliance, and completeness. This includes the creation of agendas, facilitation of physical and virtual meetings, and follow up of action items.
- Manages and tracks Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) software licenses.
- Generate software media (including disks and drives) required for internal/external customer deliveries.
- Transfers software files between multiple systems.
- Performs daily and ad-hoc software syncs between multiple systems.
Qualifications:
- TS/SCI Clearance Required.
- Requires technical knowledge in functional area including analytical and troubleshooting skills typically obtained through prior experience in an engineering or technical support role such as: software configuration manager (SWCM), software quality assurance (SWQA/SWQE/SWQC), software developer, software technician, software integration and test engineer, or similar.
- Experience working in a fast-paced continuous change environment.
- Willingness to work overtime and/or outside of normal business hours as needed to meet critical deadlines and business requirements.
- Experience with Windows and Linux OS environments.
- Experience using build automation tools (Jenkins) and remote access tools.
- Experience in Agile development environments with knowledge of one or more development and version control/defect management toolsets (Jira, Bitbucket/Git, Confluence, Jenkins, Artifactory, Agile PDM, SolidWorks, ClearCase, Subversion, Windchill, or similar).
- Requires broad theoretical knowledge typically obtained through advanced education in a technical discipline. Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Knowledge of EIA-649C, MIL-STD-973, and/or other relevant Configuration Management industry standards.
- One or more relevant Configuration Management certification(s) such as CMPIC or NDIA.
- Experience in continuous process improvement techniques such as Lean Six Sigma.
- Tool Administration experience with Atlassian tools.
- Familiarity with programming and scripting languages (C#/C++, Java, Python, Perl).
