Sr. Systems Engineer

We are currently seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer for our Northampton, MA location.

Job Description: The purpose of the system engineer position is to synthesize and define complex electro-optical and electro-mechanical systems. Coordinate system level requirements and ensure that technical obligations are fulfilled. Subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge of job area and in-depth knowledge of project management. Manages large, complex project initiatives of substantial importance to the organization with minimal oversight or direction. Communicates within and outside of the organization to explain and influence changes to practices, processes and approaches. Makes significant improvements in processes, systems, or products. Provides input into new products/processes and implements operational plans that have measurable impact on business or functional results.

Essential Functions:

  • Synthesize and define complex electro-optical and electro-mechanical systems containing multiple different dependent subsystems and technologies.
  • Coordinate system level requirements internally and among subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Work with Project Engineer, other engineers and other departments to ensure that all technical contractual obligations are fulfilled.
  • Ensure adherence to Quality Systems Manual and applicable Standard Work Instructions.
  • Generate design review materials and communicate design decisions.
  • Adhere to budget and schedule commitments. 
  • Must be able to lead a technical team on programs including preparing estimates for manpower and other resources required to execute new projects or to complete existing projects. 
  • Have the autonomy to make or influence decisions on a program without needing guidance or supervision
  • Independently perform requirements analysis and allocation and functional analysis and allocation.
  • Develop Subsystem architecture block Diagrams. Generate an SRVM for the system level requirements. Prepare system and subsystem level specifications.
  • Generate Test Plans for systems and subsystems to ensure validation of requirements
  • Work with Quality Engineering and other disciplines to ensure Test Methods and  Verification of Requirements is in accordance with the SRVM and Test Plans
  • Support Production Floor for system integration and test
  • Conduct or coordinate system level analyses and trade studies and complex design risk trade-off analysis.
  • Coordinate and lead design reviews of new or existing designs prepare/present complex internal and external design reviews.
  • Prepare and update system level Technical Performance Measures as required.
  • Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Represents organization as prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. Including Prepare technical proposals to support Business Development bidding efforts including identifying technical risks. And Prepare and deliver technical presentations to management and customers.
  • Defines the test requirements, how, when, where engineering development, first article, and factory acceptance testing will occur for complex products. Works with Quality engineering and the PE to complete all test planning and requirement verifications. Uses DOORs proficiently
  • Can convert a set of deliverables into a set of tasks and estimating how many hours will be required to execute the tasks. Also included is the ability to format these in Basis of Estimate sheets and Work Breakdown Structures.     
  • Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.  Represents organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • Draft technical performance specifications and assist Purchasing Department with procurement of items as necessary
  • Capable of providing technical supervision and training/mentoring to lower level engineers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Software Engineering or related field.
  • Nine (9) years of prior relevant experience.
  • Successful candidates meet eligibility requirements to access US classified information
  • Light domestic and international travel environments – up to 25%
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Works in a typical office environment with exposure to light manufacturing environment
  • Software used: Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint, Outlook E-mail
  • Technical Software Used: Mathcad, MATLAB, DOORs
  • May have in-depth knowledge of project management.
  • The use of safety equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas
  • Must be able to sit or stand for up to nine hours
  • Fine motor dexterity
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Concentrated mental/visual demand
