Description:

Job Summary:

Responsible for research, design, and development of custom software components and applications, in conjunction with hardware product development. Primarily responsible for the design and development of software products for a variety software applications. Participates in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, and test of software products. Applies computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis concepts and principles in the development of creative software solutions. Works closely with cross functional members of the engineering organization to develop and evaluate interfaces between the hardware and software, operational performance requirements, design of the overall system, and development of software for the system. The Software Engineer, Senior Specialist Level is a senior professional with strong job area knowledge and broad knowledge of project management, managing complex projects and processes with general oversight to achieve operational targets and goals with direct impact on team and departmental results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as liason between team developers and product owners and program manager
  • Oversee tasking of developers
  • Provide updates to engineering management as to program needs, risks, and status
  • Coalesce technical plans, and strategies, and present unbiased options to product owners and the program manager
  • Interact directly with engineering team and program management staff to analyze requirements and provide insights and recommendations based on technical subject matter expertise
  • Translate requirements into optimal technical designs
  • Provide guidance to peers on their designs
  • Effectively present technical designs to Software Engineering, program management, and other team members
  • Implement requirements into software components and applications according to technical design
  • Unit and Integration test software components and applications to ensure quality of deliverables
  • Provide direction, input and effort toward the technical verification of all technical, functional and corporate requirements prior to delivery of software components and applications
  • Investigate and address technically difficult requirement violations in functional testing and production software as needed
  • Track and report status of tasks, deliverables, and issues to Software Engineering team
  • Help ensure team adherence to corporate processes and standards for all activities and deliverables during all phases of involvement in the software development life cycle
  • Identify innovations and lessons learned within the Software Engineering team to maximize quality and productivity
  • Expertly manage multiple task assignments and other corporate priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to onboard new hires and mentor other team members
  • Demonstrated ability to lead code reviews and knowledge sharing presentations
  • Facilitate technical cross talks across teams
  • Required to perform other appropriate duties as requested, directed, or assigned
  • Perform all job functions with a positive, professional attitude
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites up to 30% of the year
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a lead developer on travel to customer sites
  • Demonstrated ability to engage directly with the customer
  • Prefer experience with Harris radio and similar radio systems
  • Prefer experience with Wescam sensor systems or similar electro-optical sensor systems

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 8+ years of C# with an emphasis in Windows deskop development (Windows Presentation Foundation, Winforms)
  • Advanced understanding of C# in a multithreaded application environment
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant technologies, software development methodologies, and programming languages
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of object oriented design/development in a real-time environment
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of automated unit, integration, and API testing
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of source code management and defect tracking
  • Expert ability to effectively utilize both written and verbal communication skills
  • Expert ability to identify complex problems and provide multiple solutions
  • Expert ability to understand, create, and communicate complex design specifications
  • Expert ability in network protocols such as UDP, TCP, Multicast and Broadcast.
  • Ability to understand and utilize UML (Unified Modeling Language) is a plus
  • Expert ability to quickly and effectively breakdown assignments into work tasks and provide effort and schedule estimates and successfully achieve them
  • Expert ability to write complex computer software components and applications
  • Expert ability to identify and solve complex problems
  • Expert ability to use judgment and logic in decision-making considering relative to costs and benefits of potential actions
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory standards impact on software development
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a corporate ethic exhibit a spirit of teamwork and cooperation within the organization
  • Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance required

Education and Experience:

  • Master's or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 9+ years of progressively advanced object oriented commercial or government software development experience

Physical Demands:

  • Required to sit for long periods of time
  • Infrequent light physical effort required
  • Written and verbal communication
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse
  • May require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane

  • Work performed in an office environment with people close to each other
  • Working with computers, and other computer components
  • Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside of normal working hours (evenings and weekends)
