Job Description:

L3Harris is searching for a Senior Systems Administrator to join the Mission Networks Voice Switch program team providing modern, secure, reliable and resilient telecommunications networks and information management systems to the federal government. The ideal candidate will be selected to join our team developing critical communication capabilities for air traffic control, air-to-ground data communication, secure access to situational awareness data and secure information sharing to state agencies. Responsibilities include integration of software into production environment and maintaining software operations through hardware refresh/updates. Position also includes the administration of Windows & Linux systems and managing virtual environments, including their baseline configuration.

We are looking for an Engineer to creatively solve problems and who is willing to resolve issues that may arise from software or technical stack updates. Responsibilities for this position include support to software engineering during the development of a new Operational Support System (OSS) by provisioning and managing the virtual environments (VM) and installing and configuring the Linux based CentOS Operating System. The position also requires monitoring and maintaining the system hardware performance, and ensuring that system hardware, software, and related procedures adhere to the system’s design and architecture. This individual will manage system access user accounts and develop the procedures for system configuration to support production builds. This individual will also assist program teams with technical analysis and support the testing and roll-out of new patches. The position includes participation in the program’s focus on smoothing the transition from system development to operational readiness within the program’s lifecycle.

Other specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Performs software installations and upgrades to CentOS and Windows operating systems and layered software packages and maintains them in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements.
  • Engages directly with customers to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve system issues, ensuring Service Level Agreement (SLA) response timelines are met.
  • Administers assigned Enterprise systems such as enterprise data storage administration (EMC), enterprise server virtualization (VMWare) to ensure systems are functioning properly.
  • Troubleshoots hardware, software, and wide area network related problems associated with the assigned Enterprise system(s).
  • Coordinates with server and operating system vendors to resolve issues, arrange service, and obtain support.
  • Performing system administration and configuration tasks for Windows (including legacy version) and Linux systems
  • Experience creating and managing virtualized environments, including VMware Workstation and VirtualBox
  • Ability to obtain and maintain clearance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, IT Security or related field, and minimum 6 years related experience; or a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, IT Security or related field, and minimum 4 years related experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience supporting software and deploying solutions to production environment.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in the network systems administration field performing the specification, selection, evaluation, testing, deployment and operation of Linux, CentOS and Windows Operating Systems (OS) and servers.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Problem solver, willingness to attempt solutions until issues are resolved
  • Experience debugging C/C++ code to perform root cause analysis and resolving issues with non-software solutions
  • Willingness to find solutions with restrictions on software changes and limited access to external COTS support
  • Ability to prepare and produce releases of software components.
  • Experience with source control and issue tracking tools & processes, including Git & Jira
  • Experience with shell scripting or other scripting languages for automation purposes
  • Experience with Win2k through Windows Server 2019
  • Project, Build, Package Management Experience.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
