Job Description:

Under close supervision of the Operations Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing complete final electrical and mechanical assembly and first article operations of all types of varied or complex radar systems and electronic subsystems, including locating and installation of harnesses, fit, adjusting, winding, soldering, encapsulating, drilling, pinning and grinding in accordance with work order instructions, Engineering Drawings and Manufacturing Process Specifications and with minimum documentation. Determines and/or follows methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering and cable harnessing on assembly units. Makes setups and adjustments holding tolerances to blueprint specifications.

Essential Functions:

NOTE: Due to the varying production requirements at the time of hire, this position requires soldering skills to Military specifications or ANSI-J-STD-001 in addition to mechanical/assembly skills or may require only mechanical/assembly skills. This is to be determined by the Manager/Supervisor based on the tasks and production needs.

  • Assemble completely all types of major radar system racks, shelters and trailers, sensors, transformers, high voltage modules and magnetic amplifiers, by ascertaining sequence of operation, identity of relationship of parts and methods required to locate, fit, solder, adjust and calibrate parts.
  • Assemble various electronic devices and harnesses using drawings, work instructions, operation sheets, and / or schematics.
  • Perform simple to semi-complex cable assembly per shop order instructions and engineering drawing.
  • Basic understanding of standard hardware installation sequence.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, hardware descriptions on Engineering BOM and physically identify the characteristic of the hardware.
  • Test, inspect, adjust and calibrate assemblies and equipment to the extent required to ascertain correct continuity, resistivity, polarity, inductivity, capacity and proper mechanical operation.

Perform necessary drilling, reaming, tapping, fitting, bolting, soldering, torquing, flushing and adjusting required to complete assembly per specification flushing.

  • Observe industry best practices for FOD, ESD, and material handling controls.
  • Ability to communicate issues, concerns and/or questions to his or her supervisors/managers and/or support groups (Manufacturing Engineering, Planning, Quality and Inspection).
  • Complies with company’s safety rules and regulations.
  • Able to pass soldering test and be certified ANSI-J-STD-001 as required.
  • Must be able to use basic hand tools and fixturing
  • Must be able to lift at least 35 pounds
  • Basic shop math including measuring ratios by weight and volume.
  • Able to read and understand both written and verbal instructions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred; 2-4 years in related electro-mechanical assembly experience, OR or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 0-2 years of prior related experience.
  • Experience with assembly blueprint reading.
  • Experience with hardware installation requirements, using hand tools, performing assembly and/or repair work.
  • Requires knowledge/skills and experience with hand soldering in an Aerospace manufacturing environment or related field.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Certification with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC-J-STD-001

In compliance with California's Fair Pay Act, the salary range for this role in California is $43,500 - $80,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits including: health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
