Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a Specialist in Project Engineering as it continues to develop and establish a foothold in the rapidly growing market space for Autonomous Undersea Vehicles (AUV) as well as continue to develop and test underwater acoustic sensor systems, geospatial applications and more to advance the U.S. Navy’s maritime capabilities. The role will be based out of a L3Harris location in Herndon, Virginia.

The ideal candidate will have proficient knowledge and interest in program management and execution, software and hardware development, systems integration, and sonar applications. The successful candidate will be able to bring innovative solutions to difficult problems, guide technical project development, and help steer and improve program practices and processes within the organization.

Essential Functions:
- Responsible for the day-to-day tactical duties for assigned programs.
- Oversees and coordinates the cost/schedule/technical aspects of ongoing engineering projects within the program guidelines set by the Program Manager and customer.
- Serves as single point-of-contact between engineering project management and planning, engineering project team, and line management.
- Reviews status of engineering projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports.
- Assesses engineering project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer-satisfaction goals and objectives.
- Develops mechanisms for monitoring engineering project progress and for intervention and problem solving with engineering project managers, line managers, and customers.
- Provides the coordination between resource managers/supervisors and ensures all necessary reviews and approvals are received.
- May conduct performance/project analyses during phase-down to benefit future/other engineering projects, missions, and programs.
- Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Ability to travel as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of relevant experience, OR 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience
- OR Master’s Degree and minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- U.S. citizenship
- Experience with issue tracking, collaboration, and documentation tools (e.g. Jira and Confluence)
- Experience with software engineering, systems engineering, integration and test engineering practices, procedures and processes
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Solid collaborative and communication skills
- Working understanding of cost account management
- Ability to develop program plans, budget estimates, and tasking statements
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills and the ability to work harmoniously in a team environment with government customers and other contractors.
- Ability to negotiate solutions among functional groups (Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.)
- Outstanding work ethic and commitment to organizational success.
- Proven analytical and troubleshooting skills demonstrated by related work experience.
- PMI Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Earned Value Management System (EVMS) experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project tool
