About L3Harris WESCAM
We develop the most advanced optical systems for global defense and military sectors, Homeland Security, Search and Rescue, Law Enforcement and Border Protection agencies worldwide. These systems provide stabilized, high-magnification Electro-optic and Infrared (EO/IR) laser, surveillance and targeting systems for airborne, marine and ground based platforms.
FPGA Design at a Glance
There is a significant amount of dimensionality to our work here - whether its design or verification.
We offer real depth to the role of an FPGA engineer - you aren't put into "career-purgatory" by doing one thing. We all perform verification testing, we all participate in design engineering and we take an active role in new design concepts and new product launches.
We carefully design our applications in such a way as to exploit the absolute most value from our high-speed pixel-based digital imaging. Our block-level simulations and in-system testing ensure that our Xilinx-based designs, VHDL code works perfectly, and our integration with our controller devices and subsystems for our optical sensors is seamless.
This team are experts at running tests....and the work that our Verification Engineers do is unlike any other. They take all the great work our designers do and try their level best to break it. They make sure our designs are not fragile, and that they live up to the reputation that our systems were built on.
We collaborate regularly with our product designers and of course, mentor our junior designers. We track and report design progress (or technical risks) to our leadership team and we play a large role in the project planning / how best to resource the team for upcoming projects.
About Joining Our FPGA ENGINEERING Talent Community
We are constantly looking for great people to join our team – but we also understand that timing is everything.
You may not be ready to make a move, but you’re open to exploring your options. We’re planning on growing steadily over the next several years – so whether you’re looking now or later – we’ll probably have something interesting for you to consider at some point...
Joining our talent community for FPGA Design and Verification means we’ll stay in touch, keep you informed on what we’re doing, what’s happening in our industry, and connect from time to time with some new positions we believe you’ll want to hear about.
Domain Expertise We Look For
Admittedly, expectations on this team are high – for a reason. FPGA design and coding is at the core of what we do at L3HARRIS WESCAM and how our complex systems operate. While there are varying degrees of subject matter expertise attached to FPGA architecture and VHDL coding/synthesis and simulation, if you have between 5-10 years of experience in some of following, you should definitely consider joining our FPGA Design Talent Community for immediate and future opportunities
- Digital signal processing techniques
- Analog and Digital Video standards (HD and 3G Video)
- Xilinx design tools
- ModelSim simulation tools
- Matlab for algorithm development
- Temporal or Spatial filtering, colour correction, warping and mixing
- Experience with DO254 design standards (military) or other safety-critical processes would be a great asset, but if you don’t have it, that’s ok.
Skills, Experience and Competencies We Look For
While this list is in no particular order - if you are able to identify some of the following within your own inventory of skills and experiences, we would be thrilled if you joined others like you in our talent community.
- An undergraduate degree on either Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
- Between 5-10 years of relevant and evolving experience in FPGA design
- Ability to mentor and coach, but listen and learn at the same time
- Curiosity – it shows us you don’t know something but you want to find out
Life at L3Harris WESCAM
This is the most important part.
Many companies say that their work is ‘exciting’ or ‘challenging’, or that they work in a fast-paced environment.
Perhaps our definition of those terms is slightly different – because we are one of the only companies in the world that produce what we do, have customers like we do, allow our employees to work on the kinds of things we do, and say with certainty that what we do every day directly contributes to protecting lives around the world.
