Senior Specialist, Avionics Software (Enfield NS)

Under the supervision of the Weapon System Software Manager, the Senior Specialist’s responsibilities include conducting software engineering life cycle and project management activities. He/she will be responsible for all aspects of software project progression and reporting. He/she will work with technical experts, line managers, suppliers and customers to identify system issues, conduct technical assessments, and to develop and implement resolutions while meeting project goals and ensuring the host platform meets its operational objectives.

To achieve this, you will be called upon to:

- Be an active member of the Weapon System Software section within L3 MAS.

- Provide and execute (as required), technical recommendations on software life cycle development and maintenance activities for avionic systems, including but not limited to military aircraft sensor systems.

- Support system, hardware, and software design changes to platform subsystems. This may include researching technical issues associated with host environment through to the computer software configuration item (CSCI) level.

- Manage software development and/or software integration activities executed in-house or though sub-contracted organizations.

- Manage system and software requirements.

- Plan system integration and/or acceptance testing.

- Plan software integration and/or acceptance testing.

- Develop, generate and maintain project schedules and project plans.

- Report status on project schedules and deliverables.

- Support the update of annual budget planning.

- Coordinate, schedule, facilitate, and execute (as required), project activities and tasks. This includes activities pertaining to research and analysis, planning, design, implementation, testing, and prototype and fleet installation.

- Manage subcontractor solutions, schedules, and deliverables to align with project goals.

- He or she should be competent in handling simultaneously occurring tasks and have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Work is not generally supervised in detail and the amount of supervision provided will vary depending upon the assignment.

Qualifications - External

- Bachelor of Engineering (Software, Computer, Electrical) or Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

- Avionics and/or Mission Systems Senior Systems technical experience.

- Minimal 3 years’ experience working with project plans, schedules and deliverables.

- Minimal 5 years’ experience working on software development / integration projects such as: military platform and avionics embedded software, commercial application software, commercial embedded software, distributed systems software, or security systems software.

- Computer skills: Office applications including MS Project. System and software modelling tools using UML, SysML, BPMN, etc. within modern software development environments.

- Strong communication skills (written and oral)
