Job Title: Intern D, Category Management

Job Location: Grand Rapids, MI or St. Petersburg, FL

Job Description:

The Strategic Sourcer is responsible for the sourcing strategy for all commodities and direct materials that support product development and production for Avionics division programs of Commercial Aviation Solutions Sector; create detailed commodity strategies and manage suppliers to simplify our supply base and reduce material cost by implementing negotiation strategies while ensuring product availability; support multiple stakeholders. The individual will be responsible for approximately $100M spend across different commodities; mainly electronics and metals. Subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge of electronics and metals commodities and in-depth knowledge of project management.

New Product Introduction partner with our new product/project teams to develop supplier relationships and source new materials necessary to develop breakthrough products in our category along with supporting and driving Design for Supply Chain objectives to meet critical program requirements.

Manufacturing Operations partner with our plant teams to drive lowest total cost of acquisition and highest material availability by developing and implementing relevant material replenishment models.

This individual will be responsible for establishing standard processes for material sourcing, cost reduction planning and supplier management. They will take an active role in talent management and development of site procurement teams.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead Sourcing initiatives driving results measured by lower material cost, responsive supplier performance, process and service improvements, risk mitigation and resultant productivity through supply chain. Develop strategic roadmap for critical commodities.
  • Improve Working capital through payment term extensions and effective material replenishment strategies such as Vendor Managed Inventory, Consignment.
  • Gathers commodity and subject matter expertise/insights and market intelligence to ensure sourcing solutions meet business needs
  • Performs complex data analysis and build financial models
  • Assess supplier capabilities and identify new suppliers
  • Establishes commercial contract terms and conditions and coordinates with legal to execute contracts with suppliers that optimize the partnership
  • Review suppliers against contracted obligations/service levels and business expectations, feedback them on performance, seek continuous improvement and develop new capabilities per business needs.
  • Leads supply chain management and procurement activities for new product launches and collaborate with new product/project teams to develop sourcing strategies and implement the same along with developing sourcing risk plans.


Pursuing Bachelor’s degree (Supply Chain Management preferred)

  • Experience in electronics, contract manufacturing, Avionics industry
  • Knowledge in the areas of Circuit card assemblies, electro mechanical, electronics, displays and electronic components.
  • Understanding of global economics and ability to use market data/analytics to predict trends
