Description:

L3Harris Space & Sensors Division, headquartered in Mason, Ohio, designs, develops, and manufactures complex systems (electronic, avionics, transceivers, transmitters, electro-optical, and electro-mechanical) for the defense, aerospace, and commercial markets. L3Harris is a recognized leader in Electro-Optical technologies that enable systems to support surveillance, reconnaissance, threat detection, and self-protection missions. Our world-class Space Avionics systems include equipment for Mars Rover/Landers/Orbiters, Launch Vehicles, and Imaging Satellite Communications.

Mason, OH is located in Warren County, “Ohio’s Largest Playground.” Major attractions are right around the corner, including Great Wolf Lodge and Kings Island Amusement Park. Our site is 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati, where there are multiple attractions including The Newport Aquarium and The Cincinnati Zoo. Cincinnati is also the home AFC Champions the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Cyclones and FC Cincinnati of Major League Soccer.

We are currently seeking a Software Engineering Manager with experience leading and developing teams. This individual will have the opportunity to work on cutting edge Infrared Product lines and world-class Space Avionics systems. As a manager, this individual will oversee all application and test software development for the Space and Sensors Division. Sample products you and your team will work on are Mars Rovers, Counter Drone Protection Systems, and ultra-high speed and ultra-large format Infrared Cameras. As a functional leader, this manager provides talented engineering resources to the organization in support of new development and production testing solutions. The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of software with experience developing new products as well testing electronics and electronic systems.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manages, recruits, and develops a strong group of software engineers
  • Defines, maintains, improves and manages the software development processes
  • Identifies and manages design risk of software engineering projects
  • Develops technology roadmap for new software designs
  • Supports team in developing new software via oversight and review
  • Provides labor and resource planning
  • Supports bid and proposal activities including cost and schedule estimation

Required Competencies/Skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, specifically with software teams
  • Experience developing application and/or test software in C++/C# or LabVIEW/TestStand
  • Experience developing plans with costs and schedules for new development projects
  • Working knowledge of electronics, requirements and applications
  • Knowledge of software design and architecture best practices and processes
  • Ability to make complex decisions with sparse data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Minimum of BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar

Preferred Competencies/Skills:

  • Proficient in National Instruments Products such as LabVIEW and TestStand
  • Proficient in C++ and/or C#
  • Familiar with Earned Value Management
  • Experience testing electronics
  • Working knowledge of system engineering practices
  • Working knowledge of competitive technology and products
  • Experience with requirements creation and management, specifically in DOORS
  • Experience in the Defense, Space, Aerospace, or similar industries

Qualifications

Education:

To be considered for this position, the applicant must have at least a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
