Essential Responsibilities 

  • Support Electro-Optical Designers in the development of complex Electro-Optical sub-assemblies such as digital imaging systems, thermal imaging systems and laser positioning systems.
  • Provide extensive support to the Electro-Optical Design Engineering team in the form of:
    • Test set-up design and preparation
    • Data collection and analysis
    • Maintenance of test equipment and computer systems
    • Local flight tests support
    • Lab equipment management and parts procurement
    • Completion of various electro-optical characterization tests
    • Automation of lab equipment and test procedures
  • Using advanced product knowledge, support the NPI, production and CSG assembly activities by troubleshooting technical problems using advanced methods of diagnosis.
  • Attend daily NPI production meeting as required and help manage the engineering action list.
  • Actively support the manufacturing organization to ensure proper knowledge transfer, timely resolution of design issues, review of design non-compliances, and effective test methodologies development.
  • Generation and update of Electro-Optical Design documentation including analyses summary, specification documents and test reports.
  • Keep up-to-date knowledge of Electro-Optical industry trends and new technologies that may be relevant to WESCAM’s business.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Electro-Optical Engineering.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Optics & Photonics, Electronics or equivalent
  • Professional experience in a similar role is preferred
  • Experience with electro-optical systems testing an asset

 

 

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Demonstrated high level of creativity, independence and initiative
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot new and existing Electro-Optical assemblies
  • Strong knowledge of basic optics principles related to surveillance systems:
    • MTF, LOS Jitter, MRTD & MRC measurements
    • Ability to judge image quality (dead pixels, artefacts, etc)
    • Thermal imaging
    • Laser systems testing (Output energy measurement, missing pulses, divergence, etc)
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Experience with optical measurement techniques to verify sensor-to-sensor boresight alignment
  • Good understanding of lean and 5S principles. Passion for continuous improvement
  • Proficient in optics and electronics lab environments
  • Comfortable using Electro-Optical lab equipment and software
    • Analog and digital video monitors, recorders, and capture equipment
    • Collimators, integrating spheres, blackbody sources
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Laser energy meters
    • Instrumentation control
  • Basic statistics and MS Excel skills
  • Basic programming skills in Matlab, Python, or another language
