JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for providing Engineering support to the Tactical Land SATCOM Support Contract.
Your work will encompass engineering changes including modification or enhancements, technical investigations, obsolescence management and disposal of L3Harris and third-party products. This role will assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory frameworks, contractual obligations, and customer requirements.
SCOPE
The SATCOM Systems Engineer will be primarily responsible for leading engineering changes, assist in triaging technical support requests, actioning engineering investigations and coordinating with Product Line Management and Product Service representatives to develop outcomes for the ADF. The SATCOM Systems Engineer will assist in maintaining the configuration management of the system and related technical data.
The SATCOM Systems Engineer works closely with the Sustainment Engineering Manager to ensure the technical aspects of the system are safe, fit for purpose, and functioning within design specification. The scope may encompass one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electrical, networking, software, mechanical and systems.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Co-ordinate with the parties (including Suppliers) who are providing Engineering Services for the SATCOM projects; ensuring understanding of their responsibilities, the processes to be used, and the timeframes involved.
- Lead engineering changes for modifications or enhancements, including end-to-end requirements management, detailed design, verification, and associated reporting.
- Conduct Technical Information Review (TIR) from any source which may affect fit, form or function of the PBS items and provide advice to the SATCOM program office, including any related engineering investigation or change.
- Assist in technical investigations for engineering-related requests into SATCOM products range, investigating product issues and providing written recommendations and outcomes.
- Monitor and maintain the Products Being Supported (PBS) items for lifecycle changes, product issues, supportability issues, change proposals and product roadmaps.
- Status and deliver timely outcomes on Request for Information (RFI) raised by the SATCOM program office.
- Provision of input to Contract Status Reporting, including performance, planned activities, issues and opportunities as appropriate to SATCOM project.
- Management and update of engineering related plans and procedures, including Contract Data Requirement List (CDRL) items; and
- Support to the organization, control, and coordination of engineering and technical operations of the SATCOM project.
PERSON PROFILE
An experienced systems engineer with a strong background in Government or Military engineering who has a good working knowledge of satellite communications, IP networking and verification. Willing to travel domestically and internationally, engage with key stakeholders, and provide responsive and timely solutions to customer engineering requirements. Must have both a commercial acumen combined with technical pragmatism to enable optimal solutions to be achieved.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia
- Examples include Avionics, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems, Software
- Minimum of 6 years of post graduate engineering experience
- Experience working in the Defence industry is a preference, though operating within a complex, large international business will also be considered
- Experience in supporting small- and large-scale engineering projects
- A background in IP networking will be highly regarded.
- A background in requirements management and/ or verification will be highly regarded.
