The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead our flagship ASDEFCON Project which started in January 2022. Due to the sensitive nature of the technology involved it is not possible to put detail in this advert, but should you be successful in getting to interview, you will find an interesting technology project with a substantial budget and a product roadmap that continues well into the future.
As part of the PMO Functional team you will report to the Program Director with the sole responsibility for the successful delivery of this key Project. The Project will include the usual ASDEFCON PM, engineering and ILS requirements with a team built to match the required outputs. You will be responsible for the delivery of the Project but will necessarily work in a partnership with the Project Engineering and ILS Managers to lead and manage the team through the design and delivery process. The PM will have responsibility for the effective management and accurate reporting and forecasting of project resources, project risks and costs. The PM will also have the majority of the responsibility for stakeholder management including the most critical stakeholder – the Customer. With a period of performance of over three years including an opportunity to get in at the start of a project and shape it, this role has the potential for the right PM to make it their own as a full time salaried employee in a Company that is growing.
The successful candidate will have formal project management qualifications and demonstrated experience in delivering in an ASDEFCON environment. The successful candidate will be supported by a Project Controls team but must have a good knowledge of Earned Value Management. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience and good judgement in the usual project support functions such as contracts, A&F and procurement where you will be required to listen to advice, work with the team and make decisions across a variety of challenges. The key responsibilities and selection criteria are listed below:
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure successful and timely delivery of the project requirements in accordance with the Contract and agreed Project Management Plan (PMP).
- Lead the allocated team in accordance with the PMP and Company policies and procedures.
- Monitoring and controlling project cost and schedule performance.
- Actively managing project risks including sponsoring the project risk register which will include clear mitigation plans.
- Produce project management reports (weekly and monthly updates as well as the usual adhoc status/stand up type of reports).
- Work closely with the Account Manager on customer satisfaction and growth opportunities.
Selection Criteria
- Essential
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a Project Manager role managing complex projects in the Defence environment.
- Demonstrated experience of working in ASDEFCON Projects involving engineering design.
- Demonstrated experience of leading an allocated project team.
- Demonstrated experience of working with a Commonwealth customer.
- Demonstrated financial and schedule management experience of multi-million dollar projects.
- Demonstrated competence in written and verbal communication.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Project Management qualification.
- Preferable
- Familiarity with electronic technology projects.
- Familiarity with manufacturing businesses.
- Familiarity in working with overseas suppliers and parent companies.
- Ability to travel interstate to customer and supplier meetings.
Security Requirements
Candidates will be required to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance as a condition of their employment.
Candidates will only be considered for a position at L3 Harris Technologies if they are eligible to hold a security clearance.
A NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL ONE (NV1) security clearance is required for this position. Candidates must be an Australian citizen and have a checkable background of at least 10 years. A current NV1 security clearance is highly desirable
