Job Description

Due to our expansion and growth, we are now looking to hear from enthusiastic Senior Mechanical and Mechanical Engineers who would like to join our team in this specialised industry.


  • Design of new packages for microwave subsystems which will predominantly be used in an airborne environment or similar or modification of existing products
  • Mechanical design and solid part modelling, thermal analysis and dynamic analysis using either manual calculations or a CAD/FEA package, whichever is most effective for the design activities at the time. Extensive experience with software packages used by Micreo for parametric solid modeling, thermal analysis and dynamic analysis, such as Solidworks, is required
  • Production of mechanical drawings and assembly documentation and liaison with in-house or contract draftsmen to produce production mechanical drawings
  • Extensive experience with drawing packages used by Micreo for generating drawings, such as Autocad and DraftSight, is required
  • Familiarity with common mechanical part manufacturing techniques (CNC machining, casting, sheet metal etc.) as an input to design activities
  • Minimising size and weight in package designs
  • Design test jigs and/or fixtures for environmental testing of prototypes and production units
  • Specification review, liaising with test houses and testing for qualification of new products, including vibration, shock, humidity, etc.
  • Evaluation and development of manufacturing processes to ensure:
  • Suitability and compatibility of materials and surface finishes;
  • Ease of assembly process;
  • Minimization of overall production costs
  • Selection and management of subcontractors for: Electroplating, Machining, Painting;
  • Microwave substrate manufacture; Other (e.g. cutting foam)
  • Creation of part numbers in ERP system including required procurement information.
  • Ability to generate a bill of materials for entry into the ERP system
  • Work with Procurement to source and procure parts required for prototypes/production
  • Ability to participate in generation of formal quotations
  • Ability to deal with customers and present design details during review e.g. customer design reviews
  • Review project schedules and meet financial and time constraints
  • Participate in internal company process e.g. non-conformance reports, failure reports, etc.
  • Take part in manufacture and test of modules when exceptional manufacturing work load requires this
  • Provide Engineering support to manufacturing as required
  • Participate in R&D meetings to evaluate new technical opportunities
  • Maintain a focus on producing quality products and either recommend enhancements which will promote customer satisfaction or cost reductions
  • Recommend enhancements from time to time to the company’s actions in achieving outstanding customer satisfaction


  • Degree in mechanical engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in similar role
  • Experience with parametric modelling software packages, such as Solidworks, for solid part modelling, assembly creation, FEA thermal and dynamic analysis, etc.
  • Experience with drawing software such as Autocad and/or DraftSight
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to internal and external parties
  • Accuracy, thoroughness, persistence and attention to detail
  • Experience with a production environment.
  • Outstanding time management skills
  • Ability to lead small design team
  • Effective delegation skills

Security Requirements

A NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL TWO (NV2) security clearance is required for this position.

Candidates must be an Australian citizen and have a checkable background of at least 10 years. A current NV2 security clearance is highly desirable.
