Job Title: Tool & Die Maker C

Job Location: Batavia, OH

Job Description:

Working from preliminary design information, functional data, and/or CNC/NC program data, produces machined parts required for construction of mechanical assemblies for prototypes and pilot production units. Plans methods and sequence of machining, taking into consideration such factors as the characteristics of various metals, the effect of heat treating, warpage, etc. Lays out parts and de-bugs programs for successive machining operations, performs complicated set ups, improvises tooling when standard tooling cannot be utilized, and determines machine speeds and feeds. Must have a high degree of skill in the use of a wide variety of machine tools, machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments. May use CNC, NC, and/or conventional machining equipment.

Essential Functions:

· Sets up and operates alternately more than one type of production machine tool such as grinders, millers, drill presses, lathes, etc., on complicated production work involving difficult operations, close tolerances, and difficult set-ups of parts of irregular shapes.

· Operate a wide range of manual machine tools (lathes, broaches, grinders, drill presses, etc.) to perform various close tolerance machining operations related to production of new and modification/repair of existing tools, dies and gages.

· Fabricate new tools, gages, jigs, and fixtures, in accord with engineering drawings or sketches. Select suitable metal (if not specified) for work requirements.

· Modify or repair existing dies, jigs, fixtures, and gages in accordance with engineering drawings, sketches, operating requirements, or verbal instructions.

· Set up machines in accordance with operational & safety requirements.

· Operate machines at speeds compatible with machine operation performed and cutting characteristics of material used. Progressively check during and at finished product that work performed is in accordance with engineering drawing or sketch. If applicable, check that each finished tool piece mates with other tool pieces to form a complete tool, die, or jig. Check machining tools for obvious signs of wear.

· Rework or replace tools as required. Heat treat finished pieces in accordance with engineering drawing.

· Perform machine maintenance as required. Perform special assigned functions. These functions must be within scope of ability or training.

· Layout and dimension work in accordance with engineering drawings and/or sketches utilizing geometric tolerancing techniques.

· Braze, weld, or silver solder (if required) tool piece parts to assemble complete tool, die, jig, or fixture.

· Ability to set-up, program, and run CNC lathes and mills with supervision.

· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

· Experience operating a wide range of manual machine tools, including lathes, broaches, grinders, drill presses, etc.

· Previous machine set up experience.

· Partner with Manufacturing Operations and Engineering to determine desired course of action to solve manufacturing problem.

· Ability to work within a team environment

· Requires fully proficient job knowledge/skills.

· Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.

· Previous training experience or Operations Management experience desired.

Desired Qualifications:

· Experience fabricating parts with extremely tight tolerances.
