Job Description:

L3Harris, Military Displays Division, Systems engineering group, located in Alpharetta, GA, is looking for a highly motivated Lead, Avionics Development Systems Engineer with a passion for avionics development. As a Lead Systems Engineer, you will work on a team that develops state-of-art systems within the Aerospace industry for various Military and Commercial platforms. The selected candidate will be involved with all phases of systems engineering lifecycle development from requirements definitions, design, development, testing, and manufacturing of various airborne/ground products. In this position, the candidate will work on the initial product concept and interface with the customer on developing formal specifications and requirements. The candidate should be organized, have great communication and leadership skills, and have experience working in a collaborative Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment. Position may involve up to 5% - 10% travel to customers, suppliers, and L3Harris locations.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership through all phases of the system development lifecycle including requirements capture, system design, hardware and software integration, system validation, and verification
  • Work with internal and external customers to decompose customer specifications and system-level requirements into hardware and software specifications
  • Document operational scenarios, define system interfaces and define sub-systems and piece part requirements and generate requirement validation and verification criteria
  • Develop systems-level documents, and certification artifacts, including planning documents, verification, and validation summary documents, compliance/deviation reports
  • Apply systems engineering principles to innovate, design, develop and implement technologies, components, sub-systems, and tools to ensure compliance with specifications and requirements across applicable operating conditions
  • Generate Requirements Traceability Verification Matrix (RTVM), Design Verification Testing (DVT), Interface Definition Documents (IDD) and Interface Control Drawings (ICD), Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP)
  • Utilize engineering tools for requirements capture, such as DOORS, JAMA, etc.
  • Work with Senior Engineering and Program Management providing direct support to external customers throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Plan Systems Engineering tasks for a project to meet schedule, cost, and performance goals during the execution phase
  • Participate in major reviews throughout the lifecycle, including peer reviews, preliminary and detailed design reviews, and test readiness reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 9 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Master's Degree in a related field and a minimum of 7 years of experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience with avionics or other aircraft system development is required with an ability to quickly acquire technical domain knowledge, and contribute to the design of sophisticated architectural systems
  • Experience working with Engineering Leadership / Program Management in an IPT environment on concurrent projects with competing deadlines

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experienced with Model-Based Development (MBSE) and tools (CAMEO) for developing architectures and functional analysis.
  • Experience with implementing and testing commercial/military communications protocols including RS-422/232 ARINC-429, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-664, ARINC-818, and TTP
  • Understanding of Optical Characteristics of flight displays Display (AMLCDs, OLEDs, LEDs.) with a fundamental understanding of Radiometry, Photometry, and/or Color Sciences
  • Experience developing in ARP4754A, ARP4761, and MIL-STD- 882 regulatory environment
  • Familiarity with the development objectives of DO-254, DO-178B/C, and DO-160 processes
  • Prior experience providing technical design content for proposal development and developing proposal response
  • High-level understanding of manufacturing build, test, quality, and customer acceptance review processes
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
