Applications Engineer

The L3Harris Communications Australia Senior Specialist Applications Engineering service position provides technical and professional company representation in support of the Royal Australian Airforce AIR7000 TRITON contract with Northrop Grumman to the Commonwealth of Australia. The assignment will be positioned at RAAF base Edinburgh in Adelaide, South Australia.
The Senior Specialist Applications Engineering service position is responsible for installations, test and evaluation, system clearance, operation, on-the-job cross training and maintenance of communications systems in accordance with contractual obligations to support the AIR7000 TRITON UAV platform. The position strives to guarantee customer satisfaction and operational effectiveness of the capability through ethical and qualitative on-the-job performance. The primary goal is to provide effective support to the capability and minimize system downtime.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial Field Service Representative (FSR) training to support the AIR7000 program in Brisbane Australia
- Provide shift work within the TRITON platform mission periods and ensure operational effectiveness of the system.
- Installation, configuration, testing and troubleshooting Communications Equipment including Satellite Modems, Transceivers, BUC’s, LNB, Fixed and Stabilized Antenna Systems.
- Installation, configuration, testing and troubleshooting UHF Terrestrial Communications Equipment at customer installation(s).
- Troubleshoot RF and IP based systems using specialized software and test equipment.
- Understand/Operate/Interpret Test Equipment and tools that are required to diagnose SATCOM and Terrestrial Radio Systems including but not limited to Spectrum Analyzers, Data Testers, Cable Testing Equipment, Hand Tools etc.
- Conduct mechanical and electronic preventive maintenance to predict problems and correct anomalies prior to catastrophic downtime.
- Develop, construct, implement or modify a test plan to isolate anomalies to keep the equipment downtime to a minimum.
- Interpret and follow moderately complex sketches, schematics, drawings, charts, graphs, blueprints, block and wiring diagrams of assigned equipment.
- Maintain logs, charts and graphs for analysis, evaluation and trend detection.
- Modify assigned equipment with authorized upgrades and perform temporary modifications to extend continued operation until maintenance can be performed.
- Participate in field installations, upgrades, demonstrations and deployments.
- Maintain close and professional liaison with customer personnel to provide information, advice and services as required.
- Act as a liaison with the customer through effective and professional written and oral communication to positively represent the company.
- Act as a liaison with Engineering to highlight system defects, and recommended hardware modifications for future improvements and new business opportunities.
- Act as a liaison with Field Management to handle employee relations to include employee development.
- Required to support travel to alternate TRITON sites to ensure operational effectiveness of the system.
Qualifications and Skills:
- This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent education, training, and/or work experience with a specialized knowledge of RF Systems particularly Satellite Communications Equipment and Systems, UHF Terrestrial Radio Systems, Electronics and Mechanics, and a demonstrated ability to comprehend Electrical/Electronic schematics, logic drawings, wire This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent education, training, and/or work experience with a specialized knowledge of RF Systems particularly Satellite Communications Equipment and Systems, UHF Terrestrial Radio Systems, Electronics and Mechanics, and a demonstrated ability to comprehend Electrical/Electronic schematics, logic drawings, wire
- Typically requires two plus (2+) years related work experience and an understanding in Computer Science, Networking, Digital Control Systems, RF Systems, AC & DC power, Satellite Operation and Maintenance, Feedback Control and/or Tracking Disciplines and Command and Command Link Management Software.
- Proven written and oral communication skills to provide reports and briefings to the customer.
- Proof of relevant experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
Position Requirements:
- Ability to be granted access to Commonwealth of Australia Defence facilities.
- This position may require the ability to work independently over extended periods at isolated locations.
- Experience in the operation and configuration of VSAT Terminals and Modems including iDirect, VIASAT, L3Harris, Comtech.
- Experience in the troubleshooting of both fixed and mobile VSAT Terminals and Radio Systems
- Experience in the use and operation of Test Equipment i.e. Spectrum Analyzers
Conditions:
- 8 hour shift responsibilities with potential for mission essential 10 hour shift as required.
- Requirement to work overtime as required to support operational mission requirements.
